When Meghan Markle began dating Prince Harry in 2016, their courtship resembled a 007 movie.

“Everything was in code,” the Duchess of Sussex, 43, recalled on “The Jamie Kern Lima Show,” explaining that she and Harry, 40, referred to each other as “M” and “H.”

“I couldn’t tell anyone who I was dating, so we were just on a letter basis,” she added.

Those nicknames from their time in the “trenches” of constant U.K. media scrutiny “stuck,” Meghan told host (and good pal) Jamie Kern during the April 28 podcast. But that’s about the only thing the couple — who wed in 2018 — took with them when they moved to Montecito, California, to start a new chapter in 2020.

“In the U.S., Harry and Meghan live a fairly quiet life,” the insider exclusively tells Life & Style. “It’s refreshingly normal as far as being able to go out in public, and they act very down-to-earth with others in the community.”

An average day for Meghan includes doing the school run with her kids, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 3, she detailed on the episode, “and writing a little note in their lunchboxes.”

The With Love, Meghan star also types her children emails every night that she plans to share with them when they’re older.

“I thought it was such a great time capsule to create for them,” she noted. “I’ll say … ‘Here’s everything and every moment that I wanted to tell you how much I love you and how proud I am of you.’”

Inspiration From Princess Diana

Meghan’s desire to create this legacy for her kids might stem from the fact that Harry’s beloved mother, Princess Diana, died in 1997, when he was only 12.

“I wish I could have met her,” Meghan told Jamie.

Diana was an inspiration to Meghan long before she met Harry, claims the insider: “It’s like she’s following in the footsteps of this ultimate role model.”

Unlike Diana and King Charles III’s ill-fated union, though, Meghan said she and Harry are more in love than ever.

“When you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way,” the As Ever founder dished to podcast listeners. “I feel like it’s more of a honeymoon period for us now.”

Indeed, the butterflies have yet to wear off.

“If you haven’t noticed, my husband is very, very handsome,” Meghan continued, noting it’s the Duke of Sussex’s heart that’s truly gorgeous. “There’s something that’s not to be taken for granted when you have a partner and a spouse who is just so behind you. I mean, H, that man loves me so much … We’ve built a beautiful life.”
