Dozens of council workers across Britain have been paid for multiple full-time jobs they held in local authorities at the same time, *The i Paper* can reveal.
According to [Freedom of Information](https://inews.co.uk/topic/freedom-of-information?ico=in-line_link) responses and other public records, nine councils have identified at least 37 cases of so-called “polygamous working” since the pandemic.
In one case, a council employee working in London seemingly held up to four local authority jobs at once, although the nature of the roles hasn’t been disclosed.
Prosecutions for fraud regarding polygamous working in at least three councils have been brought, with one known conviction already secured. Several local authorities have blamed the working from home culture.
How are they hiding the jobs from the taxman as having 2 or more jobs lands you in a very high tax bracket.
If they’re doing the job well and meeting their target, why does it matter?
I could easily do my council job three times over, the nature of most of the work is incredibly easy.
Reform want to get rid of WFH to align with the trump madness, so now the mainstream media is starting with the articles demonising it
Wow, of the thousands and thousands of council workers, dozens have been caught doing something. Literally plural dozens, that could be 24, or even as high as 36! Wow! (The number is 37 btw).
Lots of WFH stuff uses screen monitoring software to track mouse movements or even keylogs, this is a none issue.
Dozens? Wow. Truly an epidemic
It’s not surprising to anyone there’s enough slack in some of these jobs but I don’t believe all the blame lies solely on those taking more than one jobs.
I could never had had enough time in any of my jobs to do another job in between. Surely there’s something wrong with the requirements of the job roles if there’s so much room for ‘extra’ work and no higher expectations for that to happen.
Cool. Now show how many CEO’s and board members are also running and sitting on the other company boards?
The Managing Director of my company runs 2 other companies according to companies house.
And let’s talk about how many MPs have second jobs and board positions while also working for the tax payers.
Remember what Farage actually meant (and I mean Farage with a postcode starting TN28 who lives a few doors away from me) actually meant was……
“I like money” “I really like it” “I also hate brown people”
If you believe this wide mouthed “immigrant marrying” “mistress having” “tax avoiding” wanker then more fool you.
Wait, how many jobs has Nigel Farage got, along with his job as an elected MP taking a full wage from the taxpayer?
Wasn’t it something unbelievable like 10?
How many MPs hold multiple jobs? Is it a full time job or not? If it isn’t, why are we paying them to work full time?
Richard Tice’s investments in renting out office space are suffering from people working from home.
Man how? I wfh full time and I’m literally a full IT dept in a trenchcoat, I manage a devops guy and he handles all the IaC, everything else full IT from bottom to top, audits, security etc I cover myself. I wear like 5 hats, ain’t enough hours in the day to do my own job let alone do more
MPs do the same and get away with it. Both are paid by the tax payer so whats the problem?
I’d argue council workers are far more productive for their wages than MPs, and our tax pounds.
Dozens… wow
And WFH as a whole is to blame, not the individuals abusing it
Give me a break
Awful lot of negative articles popping up about WFH recently as if someone doesn’t want people to do it 🤔 conspiracy?
And? How about sacking the obviously poor management instead of just demonising these workers.
Either their workload output was grossly underestimated by management or they were skiving like fuck without intervention by management.
If my manager set a target of 50% of what I can currently do then I’d think about doing 50% to meet my target and getting a wee 2nd job as well
I worked for the dwp, I used to get a bollocking as I would finish my entire days work by 10.30. And that was without a sweat. The people in my department just spent the days talking and taking 100s of cigarette breaks
Were they doing their council job up to standard? If yes, then I don’t see the issue.
The British are being groomed like the Americans, and they are falling for it like gullible Americans.
Working from home is not a bad thing but you are being groomed into thinking it is with drip drip of news stories and the idiotic, bigoted liars of Reform making it part of their claptrap. You are going to be gullibled back into the office by liars that almost certainly work from home themselves.
In my job I am typically done 3 hours before my shift is finished, because I work productively and I still get to watch TV/sports on my phone while I work…but I have colleagues who struggle and are working right up to the end of shift because they don’t organise their day efficiently
Dozens of council staff are sacked every year anyway.
Just because a person is in the office and banging at a keyboard doesn’t mean that they are any more productive.
Management should be setting objectives and a reasonable timeframe to achieve them in. If they are getting the work done, who cares what else they are doing? If they aren’t, then intervene and find out why, and if they don’t improve, fire them.
It’s not surprising. I was wondering why the ‘service’ offered by local authorities was so crap. Try making a planning application these days and you’ll see what I mean!
So out of maybe 1,500,000 people across britain that work for councils – there are dozens who are doing 2nd jobs? It’s not even close to anywhere near a large fraction of 1% of them.
Someone is trying to make this sound worse than it is to make a big deal out of nothing about ‘returning to the office working’ mentality.
Dozens eh?
Sounds like it’s trying to make a bigger deal out of this than it actually is considering councils typically employed people in the thousands.
We should convert it to a percentage and compare to the percentage of MPs with multiple jobs.
Wow can’t believe this has come to light just as Reform are pushing against WFH in councils
Dozens, across Britain? Is that all? This sort of thing is a (minor) problem in a lot of workforces, and nothing at all to do with WFH.
Some people did it.
It got noticed.
They got taken to court.
Is this a fake news?
So, it’s not against any rules, the council were aware as they gave out the jobs, no mention of if the jobs were being done to the necessary standard.
Who doesn’t know someone who has or has considered a side hussle.
Council pay is not exceptional, and there is a bit of a financial crisis going on.
Sod off Reform.
Adult Social Care is taking all the money, people don’t pay their bills, and the line gets longer and everyone complains but Mrs Jones still ain’t paying ‘why should I, I am entitled.’ And on we go.
So I’ve got to miss my kids grow up commuting, pay £400 a month, be less productive, just so a commercial landlord can make more money?
I know Council workers that do cocktails in the garden in summer with the laptop & one is writing a book when quiet. Poor management.
