Let’s set something on fire, for warmth of course…
Brilliant news. Save the planet.
Irish carbon taxes increase might just be the tipping point that saves earth for future generations.
Thank you green voters
Can the greens go 5 minutes without being scumbags and kicking the ordinary irish person
Sure, why not?
Let’s shaft the poor of this country so that a nation of 5m can singlehandedly sort out climate change.
It’s *their* fault, after all…
Tack on inflation and rising fuel costs and you’ll see people burning rubbish.
I understand the reasoning, make the use of fossil fuels so expensive that we change our habits. And work onwards reaching emissions targets.
But it just compounds the misery of fuel poverty and puts people under severe financial pressure at a time when food costs are rising sharply.
At least the rise could be somewhat mitigated by abolishing the standing charge.
Or they could delay the increase until such a time and the energy market isn’t so volatile?
The electricity grid in particular was financed by the State, it is repugnant that they get to just increase their prices at will.
Open to correction on every point of course
Good news, the cut in fuel excise was probably excessive given that oil prices dipped not long after. The government should plough on with the planned regimen.
I will admit to voting green in the 90’s and 00’s… However their involvement in the recession government put a stop to that.
As long as China, India, Russia keep consuming at the rate they are and as long as world population keeps increasing at the rate it is, we are doomed. Me washing out jam jars, and cutting back on my electricity usage is not going to make any difference.
I will continue to live as sustainably and ‘green’ as possible, but good lord I can’t afford to pay much more 😐
Once again the government are completely out of touch with reality
Does anyone know how much the carbon tax increase will actually cost? I know it will vary based on your usage but every politician seems to be quoting different prices. One green TD is saying it will cost an extra €1.50 a month on your home heating but then the opposition say it will cripple families?
Hike prices to stop one thing without supplying an alternative because its the easy.
No car charges. No offshore wind. No solar on roofs.
That’s how you Trumpify your nation.
And you’re gonna spend that on public transport…. right?
If the price hikes are already here due to the mess the world/our country is in, wel then what’s the point bringing in additional measures to rise the price even more.
The carbon tax is designed to make it more expensive so we change to an alternitave, but the price hike is here already so no need for another tax.
Shambles of a government
All I’m saying is when we run into a recession. I hope everyone blame the government after all I can’t spend my money to keep the small businesses afloat as I spend it all on food/fuel. Many like this will cut things out to try meet the cost of taxes and rising fuel prices.
Unforced, self inflicted inflation. We need to get rid of all non renewables, but it must be done carefully and well thought trough
meanwhile the greens are circle jerking themselves into oblivion over electric cars despite over half the energy infrastructure relying on fossil fuels
The IPCC released a report yesterday that the world is basically fucked. This has to happen and honestly whatever we do isn’t enough.
Yet EVs are still illegal. It’s almost like they just want more money or something
They’re mad about us.
Make it fucking safer for me to cycle and I’ll stop driving no bother. Galway is tiny and there are still fuck all bike lanes and the shitty layout makes it so dodgy.
Sure, I’m all for it, but for the love of god provide an alternative to fossil fuel first before you make all fossil fuel options unaffordable. This way you’re just creating poverty and misery.
Had we had the metro, the DART extensions, good bus network etc., then there’s an argument to make. Now we have fuck all, so people have no choice. Provide choice first, then raise taxes.
This fucking government, jesus fucking christ.
I would be all for the tax if a viable alternative existed. Eamon Ryan going on about public transport, what public transport? Outside of the few cities and large towns it doesn’t exist. I can’t cycle on the roads as they’re too dangerous and cycle lanes are non existent or in a potholed gutter.
I go to the swimming pool in the evening so I can sit in the jacuzzi to get warm for the night ahead 😅
It’s time we all stopped bitching on Reddit and took action, we can cripple the whole economy together
Remember this folks, remember this the next time Eamon Ryan portrays himself as a nice guy during the leaders debates.
No other civilised country would put up with it.
Take to the streets with the transport sector.
The more people the better the outcome.
Demand change.
Peacefully
The amount of carbon tax we pay should correlate to the amount of renewable energy we produce.
eg. If we are 100% self sufficient with renewables the we pay the full wack of carbon tax. If we are 12% sufficient then we pay 12%.
Do you want riots? Because this is how you get riots.
All while they get a cushy salary (on top of whatever else they have). It’s outrageous. I’m behind the sentiment but to do it now, with no alternative offered?
Another reason to vote them out come the next GE. Can’t believe people even gave them this chance. More of the same rubbish.
Where is the tax going? All to Dublin to a new LUAS line, while the rest of the country (and those in rural areas most impacted) will likely see no return.
Fs lads, people on the social housing need to get their home retrofitted for free ffs….
Pig Sick of more taxes – no point in working here anymore tbh
