Following the success of its first edition, Portuguese airline TAP Air Portugal announces the second edition of its innovative “Altitude Film Fest.” This on-board film festival celebrates the world of cinema at an altitude of approximately 9.000 meters and simultaneously serves to promote Portugal, its culture, and traditions. Filmmakers are invited to submit short fiction or documentary films that meet certain criteria by May 31, 2025. The participation fee is ten US dollars.
The Altitude Film Fest offers emerging international filmmakers a platform to present their work to a broad audience. The festival is seeking short films of up to 30 minutes in length that were either partially shot in Portugal or that explore Portuguese culture. Productions made between March 1, 2024, and April 30, 2025, are eligible. A committee appointed by TAP will pre-select the submitted films, which will then be presented to an independent jury of film industry professionals for final evaluation. The finalists will be notified by July 28, 2025.
A special feature of the Altitude Film Fest is its passenger engagement. In October 2025, passengers on long-haul TAP Air Portugal flights will have the opportunity to watch the ten finalist films via the in-flight entertainment system and vote for their favorite. The final selection of winners will be determined by a weighted jury vote (40 percent) and the on-board audience vote (60 percent). The festival winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Lisbon on World Cinema Day, November 5, 2025. The best feature films and documentaries will each be awarded a travel grant of €1.500 to recognize artistic achievement and provide filmmakers with new inspiration through travel.
