The picture below is a picture of my local Walmart that I just came from and it’s not looking good boys. The shelves are getting bare. ain’t seen this since the pandemic.

  1. Volunteering at a local food pantry: 5 of 8 fridges are empty

  2. The last shipments from China arrived last week

There was a day last week when the port of Seattle had ~~ZERO ships in port, much less unloading,~~ greatly reduced import volume and the port of Los Angeles expects volume this week to be less than half of normal

I figure it takes about two weeks for imports to get from the port to retail store shelves. Some stores may have loaded up in anticipation of trump’s tariffs, but most retail follow “just in time” inventory practices and keep as little as possible in the warehouses

Bottom line, stores might be able to reload shelves once or twice more, but that’s it, then they’re out.

That means we’ll feeling serious pain by the end of May, and it looks like it’s gonna be sooner.

Now, this all sounds good to me but in all honesty I have no freaking idea what I’m talking about, so if there’s a trucker or store manager or whatever who knows what’s up I would be happy to learn from them

EDIT: user /alienofwar thought reports that the port of Seattle was empty were incorrect. I did the research and found a Snopes fact check that agreed, so I correct my earlier statement

  3. I’ve seen shelves like that at Walmart a few times years ago, long before COVID. I have a feeling pictures like yours will start popping up more often in the near future.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

  4. Is this tariffs or fear mongering? Plastic cups and plate shelves are what is empty?

Listen, I understand that tariffs are going to cause major supply issues but its always important to make sure the information we give/receive is accurate. I personally don’t think this particular picture is related to tariffs. Also, many paper plates and cup products are made in the us and Canada.

  5. Nah. That’s from people stocking up for graduation parties.

  6. Just came from mine, and every shelf is full. I know shortages are soon to come, but they aren’t here yet. Willing to bet this is just a section that needs restock. Nothing less. Nothing more.

  7. Friend told me that they have been seeing some empty shelves in the grocery store too so it has definitely started

  8. Is the issue food like canned food, general food like chips etc OR just stupid things like Prime Energy or makeup crap?? Like what’s the deal???? Are cereal boxes and like oats atleast?????

  9. My local Walmart and Traget look a lot like that, constantly. Last year we blamed quiet quitting. The year before that it was lack of workforce.

  10. My stores are all full. I’m sure I’ll not notice anything different . If by chance shelves are empty I’m sure there will be other options. At times I would rather have less options.

  11. Lmao another fake Reddit picture. Just hours before the night shift crew comes in and stocks shelves.

It’s always lies with the Reddit libs.

  12. My brother just came back from Lowe’s and said they were out of several building materials.

  13. It’s a bunch of one time use plastic. Use a reusable cup.

  14. Most paper plates and cups are made in the US. Dixie has a manufacturing plant in Tennessee. This isn’t tariffs, this is just graduation/mom’s day season. Show me a barren Produce section then I will worry.

  15. I know there is a bigger issue at play but I honestly could not care any less for disposable wasteful items not being available. Wash dishes and save the environment.

  16. OP was just being paranoid. Big box stores like Walmart have stockpiled their products for at least 6 months ahead of time. So whatever in the photo was just goods has been sold and haven’t been restocked yet. Yes tariffs will hit but not now yet. And big corporations have their contingency plan just like with Covid, they would have done sourcing with different vendors to make sure they always have products to sell.

  17. I don’t shop at Walmart but I do at Costco, target, Whole Foods, giant/safeway and zero indication that anything is amiss.

  18. Well we aren’t importing solo cups and paper plates…

  19. This sub is out of control. Look I don’t like Trump either, but you are going to make yourself paranoid. We had real food supply shortages a few years ago. Even that was better than parts of the US and world. Perspective is impirtant.

  20. Before people get up in arms over this post, check your local store first. These types of posts are frequently used to deceive people, for the sake of an anti-Trump narrative.

There are tons of reasons that this picture could be faked, or real, but used deceptively. It could be from 10 years ago. It could be a section of a store that is planned to be reorganized. It could be AI generated.

    Think for yourself.

  21. I wonder how much of this is panic buying because of all the fear mongering going on.

Remember the TP crisis of 2020? Never forget.
