Hell yes!
This is good news
I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Les Mis is one of Trump’s favorite musicals. Does he not understand what it’s about?
That musical? Les Miserables.
>*Les Misérables* has several shades of meaning in French. Translators say that Victor Hugo’s novel, published in 1862, could just as well be titled *The Miserable Ones, The Outcasts, The Wretched Poor, The Victims* or *The Dispossessed*. — [definition from here](https://www.thirteen.org/blog-post/les-miserables-series-characters-misery/)
One wonders why he likes watching people suffer, the wretched poor, the outcasts….
*Tonights performance of Cats will feature MTG in the role of Grizabella*
Favorite musical? Trump?
Yeah, right. This like the time he was asked what book he was currently reading and he just threw some name out. He was asked the same question a year or two later, and named the same damn book.
So when will they preform “Our American Cousin” … asking for a friend.
I’ve enjoyed the Kennedy Center on multiple occasions, but won’t buy another ticket until that low class trash is permanently tossed into a dumpster.
Trump would make Victor Hugo sick.
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I’m living,
So different now from what it seemed…
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed…
I don’t get it…in Trump’s mind, are the Thenardiers the heroes? He can’t possibly identify with Jean Valjean or Javert – redemption and rigid adherence to the law are two things he doesn’t understand. And the students’ camaraderie and willingness to sacrifice themselves for what they believe in aren’t values he shares, but the grifting, trashiness, and cruelty of the Thenardiers are right up his alley.
Springtime for Hitler???
Scott Baio could sub in. Also Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, Kelsey Grammer and Kid Rock. It will be a big, beautiful performance.
Les Miserables is by far my favorite work of art. Book, musical, movie. I love all of it. Victor Hugo would be appalled at Donald Trump and hate everything he is.
It honestly depresses me to know that trump likes Les Miserables and probably doesn’t understand a single thing about it, because he’s clearly learned no lessons from it.
Aside from the obvious lack of self-awareness in the fact that Trump’s favorite musical is Les Miserables, the article also doesn’t seem to know the show too well, as they state that it takes place during the French Revolution. But it doesn’t. It takes place over a generation later.
What will his disproportionate retaliation be? An executive order liquidating the theater company? ICE abductions? Or just the standard stochastic good squad?
they should perform moulin rouge for him pplayed by men ..the whole cast
We need more overt acts like this that underscore that he is *NOT* just a “normal” president with whom we have political differences.
He is a domestic enemy of the Constitution and should be treated like Hitler.
I just sitting here trying to wrap my head around Trump’s favorite musical being Les Mis.
Maybe he thinks Thenardier is the hero?
Springtime for Hitler?
Can’t wait to see Ted Nugent and Roseanne Barr headline the new Les Miserables —
That’s what we should all do… just refuse to “entertain” this clown. Refuse him the thing he craves the most… attention.
Clown
They should write and perform “Trump – The Musical” where he shits himself on stage multiple times and fucks the country as a bumbling idiot.
So not Congress, not SCOTUS, not the military, not Columbia.
The first line of defense against Trump is PBS, NPR, and the arts.
His other favorite show was Evita. The man either has the deepest sense of irony or is an utter moron. I know what my money is on.
Maybe Kid Rock can be the stand in
If they won’t perform at the Kennedy Center, maybe he can see it at the Ford Theater?? Asking for a friend
I’m sorry but I find it impossible to believe that Les Mis is one of Trump’s favorite musicals. Who writes this stuff?
I had no idea “Debbie Does Dallas” was a musical.
Wow, theater actors have bigger balls and more backbone than most of the politicians in DC
This is the shit that narcissistic fuck actually cares about. Good for the cast of Les Mis.
I’m struggling with the idea of him having a favourite musical tbh
Every act of defiance to trump counts. No matter if it’s big or small, keep showing donald trump that he’s not welcome in this world.
Now if Biden or Obama professed their love for a broadway musical, Jesse Waters and Sean Hannity would run stories accusing them of not being “*manly*” enough for America.
“The president proceeded to tout all the ways he hoped to remake the center in his own image, namely by staging “non-woke” musicals—like *Les Misérables*—and honoring more conservative stars.”
We all know Trump is clueless about – well, just about everything except how to lie and cheat your way through life. But thinking that “Les Misérables” is “non-woke” is so incredibly stupid. Victor Hugo would like to have a word.
But what else would you expect from the modern day Thenardier? Maybe he likes it because he relates to the song “Master of the House” and imagines that the Thenardiers are the stars because they make him laugh.
What a boob.
Classless & Clueless. But he lied himself into the presidency twice so what do I know?
Les mis was not on my guess list
Zero % chance Trump has any legitimate appreciation for Les Mis
Congratulations to the cast. Great move. Thanks for standing up to the tyrant.
If the irony of Trump liking Le Mis were any more palpable, it would be magnetic.
Springtime with Hitler?
I think him saying Les Mis is his favorite musical makes him look smart to people who like musicals. lol. I don’t believe he’s ever watched or read anything of substance and understood it.
It’s kinda wild that Trump’s favorite musical is Les Miserables a literal anthem about rising up against people like him. That’s like the Death Star blasting Here Comes the Sun before firing.
I believe Trump has heard OF Les Miz, knows it’s famous and a hit for years and would therefore be good at the KC.
I do NOT believe it is “one of his favorite musicals” and will not believe it until he says SOMETHING to indicate he knows something–anything–about the plot.
Exhibit 1: No music from Les Miz ever plays at his rallies or MAR. Plus, does he know its French and British origins? I. don’t. think. so. That said, good on the 10 people who won’t go. Hopefully, none of them will. I can’t think of any message that would be more wasted on him.
Trump’s Les Mis:
“OK folks, listen — this is a tremendous story. Tremendous. Nobody talks about it, but I know all the details. I know more about Les Misérables than Victor Hugo, frankly. Lotta people are saying that.”
“So there’s this guy — Javert. Very strong man. Law and order. The best. A real patriot, OK? He believes in rules, not chaos like the radical left in Paris. He sees this low-energy guy — Jean Valjean — total disaster, total criminal. Stole a loaf of bread, and you know what? He didn’t stop there. No, he kept escaping! Dishonest guy. Very sneaky.”
“Javert says, ‘You do the crime, you do the time,’ right? Very simple. But all the weak people — the liberals — they go, ‘Oh, Valjean changed! He’s nice now!’ They made him a mayor, folks. Can you believe that? A criminal. Running a town. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?”
“So Javert — he doesn’t quit. He’s like me, he keeps going. Strong. Relentless. Follows Valjean for years. And then — get this — he’s undercover, inside this ANTIFA-style rebellion. They’ve got red flags, they’re building barricades, total mess. And Valjean — the criminal — he’s helping them! That’s what the left does.”
“And what happens? Valjean catches Javert and lets him go. Lets him go! And now Javert’s thinking, ‘What is this? What kind of system lets a crook be the hero?’ And he’s right, folks. He’s 100% right. He was the only one who believed in justice. The ONLY one. Incredible man. Tremendous man. And honestly, very sad what happens to him.”
“But remember this: in the end, Javert — he stood for law and order. He stood when no one else would. He didn’t flip. He didn’t cry. He didn’t write a book deal. He had integrity. Total integrity. Amazing guy. Really underrated. We love Javert.”
How can Les Mis be one of his favorite musicals? What does he think it is about?
