Former presidential candidate Calin Georgescu and Romania’s annulled vote • FRANCE 24 English

It was a moment that sparked the country’s worst political crisis in decades. Romania’s constitutional court annulled its presidential election on December 6th, citing allegations of Russian interference in favor of far-right candidate Khen Gescu, who immediately decrieded the decision as anti-democratic. Today’s constitutional court ruling is more than a legal controversy. It’s basically a formalized coupet. The call was made after declassified documents revealed illegal campaign financing on Tik Tok, pointing to 25,000 pro-Jeescu accounts that became highly active 2 weeks before the election, including 800 which he allegedly helped set up, as well as paid social media influences and cyber attacks coming from external forces. George Escu had won the first round ballot and was set to go head-to-head in the runoff with pro-western alternative Elellanena Lone. At the time, Lasone was tipped just ahead in the polls, and she too condemned the court’s decision. The constitutional court decision is illegal, immoral, and crushes the very essence of democracy, the vote. In January, new elections were scheduled for May, but it didn’t stop the escalation of anti-government protests that had consumed Bucharest. Many viewed Georgescu as a marted hero and he also garnered support from international far-right figures including US Vice President JD Vance. A criminal case was opened. Georgescu was detained and charged on six counts including anti-constitutional acts and misreporting his finances. After a legal tussle, ultimately he was barred from running for president in the election.

Romanians returned to the polls on Sunday in a rerun of November’s annulled presidential election that left the country in deep political turmoil. The Constitutional Court cancelled last year’s vote after NATO critic Calin Georgescu won the first round, citing Russian interference and illegal campaign financing.

Pick-Apart their wording point by point; Is the illegal finance proven in court? 25,000 pro accounts turn on close to the election and every other election, alleged, paid social influencers so advertised, and some other people did cyber stuff and he got blamed. Nah it's a clear political takedown with no real backing.
