  3. Regardless of if europes values align with those of the US, there cannot be any significant trade or defense relationship with a country whos administration changes their mind every two minutes completely unpredictably.

    However, Europe should be pragmatic and pursue “deals” that are in its own interest, but nothing beyond that.

    We need to focus on ourselves and strengthen from within in all areas – economic, political, security.

  6. I think additional factor is the risk of European countries pursuing their own nuclear deterrents. That’s something the US has wanted to prevent since Kennedy due the risks of a global nuclear arms race. Europeans openly doubting American guarantees is seen as a big risk for nuclear proliferation, hence the different tone.

  7. Trump has demonstrated time and again that he and his administration never think anything through and can’t be relied in not to change their minds when the consequences of their actions become apparent.

  11. The Trump admin had a huge miscalculation in thinking the entire world would bend the knee to its demands and he sold the lie internally to Americans that other countries would be paying for these tariffs.

    Now American ports are empty, e-commerce sites have added ‘tariff tax’ in itemised receipts at checkout and grocery prices are skyrocketing.

    The thing these guys don’t understand is you can’t treat somebody like shit and then 1 month later act like all the nonsense you spewed about them is forgotten.
