**Starmer to provide update on trade talks with US today**
The UK and US have agreed trade deal terms – with Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government agreeing to concessions on American food including beef imports and agriculture to ease tariffs on car exports as the deal is expected to save British jobs, *The i Paper* understands.
The deal, which is expected to be announced by US President Donald Trump at 3 pm UK time, will see an end to the 25 per cent tariff on steel and cars with pharmaceuticals tariffs to be exempted down the line.
Negotiations on reducing the US-imposed 10 per cent tariffs across all sectors are expected to be continued in the near future.
President Donald Trump said “this should be a very big and exciting day”
for the US and UK, in a post on Truth Social. He also said that the deal is “full and comprehensive,” and will “cement the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come”.
Will have to be even more careful buying meat now
America can send it, but who will actually eat it?
Been using local butchers for the last year and meat tastes so much better. I won’t be buying supermarket brands but I guess the problem is places like restaurants and takeaways using it.
Right so they have no proof of any concession. And the issue with American beef is being unable to prove it’s origin with animals being imported over the border and the use of growth hormones.
If America can produce animals without those issues, then the red line hasn’t been crossed and the meat is acceptable
The EU agreed to buying American beef in 2019 – provided it was hormone-free, which meant that 99.9% of American beef couldn’t be sold in the EU. Trump claimed this as a win.
I hope that the UK does the same thing.
Doesn’t seem like anyone commenting even read the article. Interesting.
So long as it’s marked and coming from America we can void buying poison
This better be correctly labled in shops so that we don’t have to eat it.
Pumped full of chemicals and shit. I would say something bad about Starmer, but I don’t want to go to prison.
But surely there will be something on the packaging to show the beef is from the USA?
If not, looks like beef is off the menu, boys.
Of course Starmer is giving into Trump’s bullying, the man has the integrity of wet bread.
How is it possible for a Prime Minister to be so consistently wrong on what the British public wants?
If Starmer and co drop our standards to appease the Orange Cunt then he should be thrown to the wolves. This should never make it through parliament.
It’s a good day to be vegetarian.
This actually sounds decent, I’ve not got many good words to say about this government but this sounds not bad at all
So long as anywhere it’s used is prominently labelled then ok lol
“There will be no concessions on food standards”
Errrm get out, get out of power now. The farmers are going to make London come to a standstill for this.
You can’t remove our food standards that our farmers have to abide by. Thats some next level bullshit
I’ll be happy to see some proper USDA graded steaks in the UK that don’t cost a fortune.
American food better be labelled because I sure as shit ain’t buying it.
Two stupid old men selling everyone out.
US beef is banned in the UK and Europe because of hormone injections. The government would have to be insane to lift the ban.
If they did it would have to be specified on any product. If no one then buys it, no one will want to import it.
>**No concession on food standards in US trade deal**
>British farmers are likely to be pleased by the fact that there has been no concession on food standards at all in the deal.
>Many American farmers use growth hormones as a standard part of their beef production, something that was banned in Britain and the EU in the 1980s.
>But there will only be reciprocal arrangements on high-quality beef, The i Paper understands, and no concessions at all on sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) arrangements such as the import of chlorinated chickens.
>The UK is also understood to have had assurances of preferential treatment on its pharmaceutical exports although the US has not imposed tariffs on drugs yet.
>The UK’s second-largest export to the US is pharmaceuticals, with sales reaching £6.6bn last year.
Yeah, so we’ll buy it if it’s not shit – and most of it is, so we won’t buy much. Did anyone even read the article before posting about how we’re about to be flooded with Growth Hormone Mutant Beef?
What are the concessions then if they’re not concessions on food standards, that’s all I’d really care about
Sounds like Trump and Starmer have agreed to beef exports into UK but as long as it’s been produced to the same standard as our local beef.
Question is, who is going to buy it? US industry isn’t particularly set up for mass production of good quality meat, so what they are going to export is likely the expensive, low volume meat. Made even more expensive by export. Who is going to choose to buy that here over what is likely to be equally good, home grown, same quality meat?
I guess buying some on occasion as a treat will be cool since the good US meat is indeed very very good. But I imagine Trumps going to see the deficit stay the same because just being able to export stuff here doesn’t mean people will buy it and he’ll go back to complaining
Never underestimate the capacity of any flavour of UK government to bend over and take it up the arse off the US government.
By the last count there was only something like 14 grass fed cattle farms out of thousands that don’t use hormone’s, so I hope we’re only getting the beef from there.
‘High quality’ beef
Won’t eat it as I value British beef more ❤️
We probably wouldn’t be having these negotiations if half the uk diddnt vote to commit economic suicide…
“However, British farmers are likely to be pleased there has been no UK concession on food standards.”
Pretty clear cut to me.
You couldn’t pay me to eat that shite
