House Republicans have added a plan to raise billions of dollars to help pay for US President Donald Trump’s massive tax cuts through the sale of thousands of acres of federal land — a politically charged idea that has drawn opposition from some in their own party.

  1. Selling off productive assets in exchange for a huge gift to the most wealthy people in our country. Will Republican voters ever demand actual good policy from their reps?

  3. This is one of the biggest threats to freedom, every inch of this country will be privately owned once the GOP gets it’s way.

    There will be nowhere for anyone to go but their factory job unless you are spending money and making someone else rich

  5. This has to piss off republican voters. Public Land is such an amazing contribution to residents and visitors in a community. These lands are also important to the wildlife. If sold these lands would be destroyed. The Republican administration is destroying and changing things that cannot get fixed once they’re voted out for their terrible actions. Why do the rich need more money, what is going on?

  12. This was or is the plan all along. They, the Trump Regime and the Oligarchs want to privatize everything. They create a quasi emergency, then here we go and sell public trusts to the private oligarch class. This is the whole ballgame

    In all, the committee’s legislative package would raise more than $18 billion through increasing federal oil, gas, and coal lease sales as well as timber sales and other means. House Republicans are aiming for $2 trillion in spending reductions paired with a $4.5 trillion in reduced revenue from tax cuts.“

    Seems inadequate. They would have to sell 300x that value of land EVERY YEAR to meet the shortfall.
