Veronika Boskovic Pohar, the Chargée d’Affaires of the European Union in Afghanistan, says that the exclusion of Afghan women and girls from education and employment costs Afghanistan’s economy $920 million annually. On Thursday, May 8, she emphasized the importance of a women’s empowerment policy during a press conference.
She called on the Taliban to adopt inclusive policies. According to the EU Chargée d’Affaires, the Taliban’s exclusionary policies toward women are eroding public trust.
Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, women and girls have been barred from education and work and pushed to the margins of social life.
