Zara will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Friday, unveiling a campaign featuring 50 models that were part of the brand’s history. As the Spanish retailer gathers to celebrate the milestone, WWD takes a closer look at the brand’s fashion influence over the years.
Zara is a go-to brand for public figures seeking accessible, on-trend fashion. One of the most widely discussed Zara moments came in 2018, when Melania Trump wore a green Zara jacket emblazoned with the phrase “I really don’t care, do u?” during a visit to a Texas detention center. The jacket sparked widespread debate, becoming a symbol of controversy.
Among other celebrities known for often wearing Zara is Kate Middleton. The Princess of Wales has worn the brand’s blazers, dresses and accessories at various official events, often pairing Zara pieces with designer items. Notably, she attended the BAFTAs 2023 in an Alexander McQueen dress accessorized with affordable Zara earrings.
Queen Letizia of Spain, Meghan Markle, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Emily Ratajkowski, Bella Hadid, Olivia Palermo and Gwen Stefani have also incorporated Zara items into their wardrobe.
