Albania: erosion is taking whole chunks out of the coastline • FRANCE 24 English

More than half of Albania’s coastline now faces erosion. In Puya, the sea has already reclaimed 210 m of coastal forest and submerged a whole island. If you compare satellite images from 2012 with those taken today, you can see that the island of France Joseph, which was in the Buna Delta on the Albanian side, has completely disappeared. Uh they France Joseph Island was a haven of seabirds and other biodiversity. Once an off thebeaten track destination for intrepid travelers, Albania welcomed 10 million tourists in 2023, 58% up on precoid figures. Now greenlighting shorefront developments at a rate of knots. Here in Golum, the coastline is under attack from both sides. On the one hand, an ever more aggressive sea, and on the other, rampant coastal construction. Concrete pools and patios encroach on the beach, leaving just a thin strip of sand to act as a buffer zone between land and sea. In Shenzhin, business owners know they are living on borrowed time. Like at the Posedone Beach restaurant, fortified with sandbags. There were once two bunkers here. Now they’re underwater. The sea is approaching and could take everything. In four or five years, everything will be covered. But Albania has no plans to pump the brakes on its booming tourist industry. The government has announced plans to welcome 30 million visitors a year by 2030. Warnings falling on deaf ears.

Albania has the world’s third fastest growing tourism industry – freshly à la mode since covid. But as erosion takes whole chunks out of the coastline, and developers vie to build ever closer to the seafront, they’re barrelling towards a crisis. Story by Antonia Kerrigan.

  1. good, that's what happens when you have entire nation with toxic behaviour, their toxicity literally manifests into reality.
it's not a joke, lot of intelligent people like me, believe that reality is manifestation of consciousness.
like the concept of superposition and how observation changes things. it's literally impossible to observe something without changing.
consciousness is no different, every thought you have, changes the universe. usually those changes are very minimal, but when lot of people think the same and do the same, it can manifest into something bigger.

for example all the religious people, their prayers are what i call "using the life force to your advantage", but they just don't understand what they're doing, they're like monkeys using puzzle vending machine, where you solve a puzzle and get a treat, this is what religious people are. they are just monkeys solving puzzles, but they don't understand the system behind it. hint hint — it's not a god.

albania has always been full of toxic scammers and hostile people, they're worse than orcs, but their country is small and that's why they don't stand out that much.

but seriously, this concept is nothing new, it's real and it exists. for example Greer (who is highly intelligent) thinks the same, that even if about 10% of people would have higher level of intelligence, then they could literally change the world by just thinking about it. Einstein believed the same. to intelligent person, it's just common sense.

  2. Build it and people will come. Sell the image not the facts.
Tourists don't care about your erosion problems.

  3. Every piece of coast that has been lost, still has the material nearby! It just means we have to pump it back to shore and sometimes make additional longer term changes.Natures response to our living practices is easily solved. But there is no financial will! Although a 400 billion super transport hub in Poland or an underwater bridge in Scandinavia, well go figure!

  4. My jaw dropped when I heard “10 million tourists”. Is that a fact?

I’ve never heard of anyone going there. Maybe it’s regional and internal tourism.

  5. Erosion is coming and going. Once the sea comes too much and once the sea goes away. Anyway, the government is fixing those eroded areas in the most important parts of the cities…..

  6. Is this a joke? 😂

Out of the entire Mediterranean, a French TV station found Albania as an example of costline erosion?

  7. I have my family land in costal Albania, my great grandfather acquired 300 acres 100 years ago, now they are about 1000 acres within the same natural boundaries due to the Adriatic sea retreat. Albania is not disappearing, sea level cycles have always happen. Fake news and information is like weeds nowadays, we just have to keep pulling it out.

  8. This is mainly happening in the north of Albania, due to the construction of dams on the Drin River, which block a large amount of sediment that once made its way to the sea and replenished the beach sand.

  9. Why you dont put the beautiful blur crystal beaches in the video but in stead you put this terreble windy winter wheather.Who ever never been to Albania just want to let you know that Albania beaches are not what are you seeing in this video. We have blue crystal beaches and all you guys can google and see the reality and dont belive this video.

  10. Lol Albania has much bigger problems than the seas taking land😂. Mafia has taken everything government, law, economy etc and people are leaving like there is war zone. Sometimes i think an experiment is being conducted in Albania

  11. Hahaha this is all propaganda the sea has been where it is those people talking in the video are uneducated individuals! And France tv getting to worried about Albanians coastline and the 30 million tourists 😂😂 France can look at they costliest and they tourists 😂😂😂

  12. Lol the level of delusion and fear mongering is astonishing. Albanias coast line will be just fine. It’s been there for as long as anyone has been able to document it.

  13. jThe fact that Albanians today exist is proof of extreme perseverance – a small population originating in the harshest, most forsaken mountains in the Balkans that somehow made it through 3000 years of Greek, Roman, Slavic & Turkish conquest, while being outnumbered every time.

  14. Albanians are extremely nice people. The only problem is the illegal activities committed by underground crime organizations that ruin the reputation of Albanians.

  15. The younger generation are leaving Albania. That's the real problem. Soros and Rama project is all going according to plan

  16. This question is 4000 years old and still Albania and Albanians are still here . France will disappear not Albania.

  17. Un per vete nuk e di c'po ndodh ne te gjithe bregdetin shqiptar se kam 20 vjet qe jam larguat por di te them qe ne bregdetin e Shen Gjinit ka ndryshu gjithcka, plazhi eshte shume here me i vogel se para 20 viteve.
