MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – It’s National Small Business Week, and as always, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce is supporting our local businesses, this time by bringing several of them together to network.
Bringing small businesses together to support one another was the goal of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s business after-hours event.
“Small businesses are the heart of our community,” Greg Godwin, Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Business Affairs, said. “Without small businesses, we don’t have a chamber of commerce.
“It helps our community, it helps the entire river region, and we couldn’t do it without small businesses.”
Small Business Week is all about shopping local and keeping our money here in the River Region community, but the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce hopes you don’t just do that during Small Business Week, but all year long.
“We want our local economy to be as healthy as possible,” Alexandra Smith, a loan officer at Fairway Independent Mortgage, said. “We want our schools to get better, want great restaurants, tourism, and at the end of the day, if we’re not pouring back into the small businesses that make our community different, then we’re not going to be able to have those good school systems, tourism, restaurants.”
Smith says supporting local businesses is a win-win.
“When you call us and have a question about a mortgage, you’re not calling an 800 number,” she said. “You’re calling our personal cell phones, and we don’t turn it off at 5; we work on the weekends.
“We are invested in you having the best experience possible and making sure the transaction is as smooth as it can be.”
