Bill Gates plans to give away most of his fortune by 2045, blasts Musk • FRANCE 24 English

He says he plans to speed up his efforts to divest almost all of his fortune. The billionaire co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, is pledging to give away $200 billion via his charitable foundation by 2045. In a post on his website, he said, “I will give away virtually all my wealth through the Gates Foundation over the next 20 years to the cause of saving and improving lives around the world.” He also said in that message, “People will say a lot of things about me when I die, but I am determined that he died rich will not be one of them. We’re committed to fund.” Also on Thursday, he spoke out against Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, accusing him of killing the world’s poorest children US foreign aid budget earlier in the year. I think Elon, you know, hasn’t been out in the field and met these USAD workers like I have. I think it’s heroic work and uh I think what he did over that weekend is is very unfortunate including mischaracterizing uh what the money was being spent on. Gates is making the announcement now on what is his foundation’s 25th anniversary. He set up the organization with his then wife Melinda in the year 2000 and they were later joined by billionaire investor Warren Buffett. The foundation is a huge player in global health with an annual budget that will reach $9 billion by 2026.
