Ukraine calls for full ceasefire, rejects Russia’s three-day truce proposal • FRANCE 24 English

Days after Vladimir Putin announced a three-day ceasefire for the war in Ukraine, coinciding with World War II victory commemorations, the Kremlin says it wants Ukraine to give a definitive response to the offer. Ukraine. President Vadimir Zalinski had slammed the ceasefire proposition as a theatrical performance from the Russian president. On Saturday, Zalinski appeared to rule out such a truce and urged for a ceasefire of at least 30 days. We are ready to move toward a ceasefire as soon as possible, even starting today. If Russia is ready to take reciprocal steps to establish complete silence, a lasting ceasefire of at least 30 days, this is a fair time frame to prepare the next steps. Russia must stop the war and halt its assaults and shelling. The Kremlin refused to agree to an unconditional 30-day truce proposed by Washington back in March, a proposition which Ukraine accepted. The US has been aiming to clinch a deal between the two sides with Donald Trump threatening to step back from talks if he does not see progress. Trump has expressed frustration with Moscow’s continued attacks on Ukraine. In the small hours of Sunday, a Russian drone attack on the Ukrainian capital inflicted damage on several residential buildings. Both Moscow and Keev deny targeting civilians in the conflict that Russia started more than 3 years ago.

  29. Why on earth would Russia give Ukraine a month-long timeout, without any guarantees that Ukraine will negotiate in good faith this time around? Minsk agreements were demonstrative of this.
