  1. It makes sense, I’ve been to some of those places and I wouldn’t pay a lot to live in them.

  2. That’s a list of Welsh towns that when you move to England for uni you say to other Welsh people “I’m from a shit hole too I’m from …”.

  3. I live in Swanley. It’s a shit hole, and has the added bonus of also not being particularly affordable, so I have no idea how it’s number 10 on the list

  4. As someone who lives equidistant from Maesteg, Neath, and Port Talbot, affordable is certainly a word you can use to describe them.

It’s not the one I would choose, but they’re not wrong.

  5. Haven’t been to anywhere on here bar Glenrothes but honestly if they’re anything like that I’m keeping well away!

  6. It is a pretty flawed stat based on the LA average earnings and the price of a 3bed house.
Neath Port Talbot has the second highest average wages of any County in Wales after Flintshire. There is/was a large fossil fuel guzzling heavy industrial base there and generally a lot of employment. The high wages and lower house prices make it look affordable.

  7. Almost 20 years ago, when my parents were looking to move to Spain they sold our 3 bed terrace just outside of Cardiff and looked for another house to buy and flip for extra cash. My dad used the outcome of a Llanelli v Neath rugby match to decide where to buy a house.

Llanelli won, and they picked up a huge house for almost nothing, finished off some renovations and flipped it for a sizeable profit a year or so later.

I only remember going out for 1 night in Llanelli and we kept sending my brother, who lived in London at the time, to get drinks because he couldn’t get over how cheap it was.

  8. Port Talbot somehow smelt better when the forges were on full blast in the late 90s
