  1. This is the smartest article I will see all day and sadly something that should have been pursued around about the time Lord Frost felt that his manhood was being insulted and blustering about us being one of the largest economies in the world. as the US is about to find out – the funny thing about being a large, growing economy is that you don’t get to *be* a large, growing economy without reciprocal trading.

Brexit may have happened, but it didn’t need to be anywhere near as acrimonious as it has been.

  2. The governor of the Bank of England is by the most incompetent one we have had in my life time 30 years.

EU is a low growth, low innovation economy with excess regulation and poor governance.

We should be try to build trade with all countries not just the EU.

  3. As a result of Brexit, the UK is the world’s most agile major economy which is why we beat the EU to the Covid vaccines, we were quickest to help Ukraine, and we now have the CPTPP, India and US trade deals.

Meanwhile, Germany’s economy (the biggest in EU) has been shrinking for two years.

Bailey is blowing his credibility. He’s just another public-sector Euro-fantasist.

  4. The UK must also drop taxes, reduce energy costs and halve the welfare state

  5. He can say what he likes. The British public decided…its over. The free trade deal with the USA is thr final nail in the rejoin coffin.

Any attempt at betraying Brexit will see Labour polling alongside the Greens.

He’s the worst head of the BOE in its history.

  6. Christ the US far-right and Russian bots are out in force this morning.

  7. I mean yeah strong relations and trade with the EU is a great idea and I say that as someone who supports being outside of the EU. Only the Tories decided to use it as a beating stick to keep their decrepit, incompetent plethora of corrupt liars in power.

  8. Would love to, but seeing as Macron does his best to stop that happening at every turn, what can you do?

Edit: love how im getting downvotes, just for suggesting maybe the slow nature of our EU trust rebuild isnt all our fault

  9. EU is failing in so many metrics. Would be illogical to tie yourself to an anchor.

  10. New accounts ( Putin bots ) posting bullshit propaganda all the way in this article. Brexit was really bad, the UK should try to rejoin .

  11. Ah yes, a trade deal with other European companies that would be brilliant, but wait, I’m sure I remember having one of those back in the 70’s called the common market, which if the meddling eurocrats had left alone we would still have, but no, they wanted ever closer ties to Europe, more rules, more regulations, open borders.
We had it, we messed it up, we lost it.

  12. People keep saying it but they don’t seem to be negotiating in good faith. We saw it when there was a drive for Europe to unite after the US pulled military aid to Ukraine and the question of fish popped up.
