Donald Trump is planning to honor the 250th anniversary of the US Army by holding a military parade. This is the man who avoided the draft five times during the Vietnam War because he had a boo-boo on his foot. And the parade just happens to coincide with his 79th birthday.
He’s playing the old shell game. Meanwhile, Trump’s proposed 2026 budget would slash spending for science, education, and health. He must be reading Kim Jong Un’s playbook of amassing a strong military while his countrymen suffer.

When I first saw the photograph above the March 5 news brief “Voters support Starbase’s city bid” (Page A2), I thought I was looking at a Soviet-era sculpture of Stalin or Lenin. Then I read the caption and learned it was a large bust of Elon Musk near SpaceX’s Starbase. Couple that statue with the upcoming presidential birthday military parade, and I have to wonder what country — and what era — I’m living in.
