22. These people are NOT in the country illegally – it’s a program called “humanitarian parole,” and it has been used for seven decades, starting with, of all people, Richard Nixon. It’s actual legislation, not an EO, and there are legal rules about how to end it for an individual. That requires a review and a hearing. One of the caveats of the program is their status is automatically terminated if they are convicted of any type of violent crime – including domestic battery.

    What this means is that Trump is asking for to be cleared to deport 500K people who were granted this status by immigration courts who have *not* committed a crime — because a criminal would already be eligible for deportation or removal.

    I thought he had “already identified” some 11 million “violent criminals” — he said this 38 times on the campaign trail, according to the Lincoln Project.

    Apparently, he can’t find them, so he’s going to legal immigrants who are not criminals.
