> “We knew each other kind of offhand, but I knew her from being a massive fan, just watching her work, and always wanted to do something with her,” said Theron. “Because when I came into the action world, she was really, to me, like, the sensei. She was the OG.”
> “She should’ve won the Academy Award for Kill Bill, right?” said host Jimmy Kimmel of Thurman.
> “A hundred percent,” agreed Theron.
“Men get a lot of credit for these movies”
Yeah that’s going to happen when a man directed it, wrote it. Another man did the cinematography, another man did the score, and another man produced it.
I would have been all for Thurman winning for one of these movies but I don’t recall action movies winning Oscars.
Kill Bill was quite an effort for Uma. At least an Oscar Nomination deservedly so.
What??
Kill Bill is basically an action thriller. People don’t get nominated for Oscars for being in action thrillers, man or woman.
OK, let’s start counting. How many men have won an award for an action movie? I’m listening, Charlize.
Kill Bill is one of my favorite movies of all time. There were some amazing performances in this movie and Uma’s performance was my least favorite. She was just on a straight murder revenge path but the other characters had more nuance to them
Charlize also deserved at least a nomination for Fury Road.
Here we go: an injustice only because she is a woman!!!!!! Ohhh noooo…. Charlize turning to a super dumbwoke person now.
She really gave her all to those movies and definitely deserves more recognition for it. The sword fight at the end of the first movie with the Yakuza is so fucking good. The way she delivers the line about all the missing limbs belonging to her now always cracks me up.
Funny she would have won an Oscar over Charlize Theron the very same year
Yeah. Remember all those Oscar’s Arnold got through this career?
She WAS the movie, brilliantly supported and showcased with stellar casting.
Not going to argue with that. She was really incredible.
I love that she is basically admitting that Uma should have won it over herself since Charlize actually won best actress that year, I think. And I would agree. As good as Charlize was, Uma shoudve won. It’s a crime that Uma wasn’t even nominated for either Kill Bill. She probably would have been at least nominated for best actress if both volumes were released as one full movie and not split into two movies in two separate years.
Nothing Kill Bill related was Oscar worthy
Lucy Liu and go go were great.
I mean really what a film.
If Keanu hasn’t been awarded anything for Wick then her point is moot
Nobody deserved an Oscar for kill bill, male or female.
I do not disagree with this statement
It’s one of the greatest movies of all time
That really was an iconic performance and character; I think it was Tarantino’s best work
Haven’t seen her since the movie dropped. Did she have no mainstream success after the movie?
Action movies don’t get Oscars.
Uma was amazing in those movies or in anything but Kill Bill was epic
Certainly a nom. Next level performance.
Charlize also deserves nod for Atomic Blonde
My favorite in Tarantino’s catalog
and charlize deserves more praise for atomic blonde one of the best movies to be created in the last 20years
Hahaha she says it like she thinks the award went to a man instead – that’s not how these awards work.
I’m still bitter about Michelle Yeoh being cheated out of a best actor Oscar for Crouching Tiger.
Charlize with a solid fuckin take, big agree
As someone who thinks The Whole Bloody Affair is a 10/10 – I MOSTLY agree. I think she, at the very least, deserved an Oscar nomination. She became the face of femme fatales in the 2000s and even beyond. The Bride forever.
They probably didnt see it 🙄
I always wonder how Kill Bill would have worked if the main character was a man slicing up dozens of women. Somehow I doubt that Charlize Theron would have so much praise for that work. Yet the only change was a gender reversal.
I’ve always held that if you take a situation and reverse the genders and your opinion about that situation changes then the opinion is sexist by definition.
Kill Bills one of those movies I feel like really just doesn’t hold up.
But do men get Oscars for such roles?
Charlize Theron comes out as a moron
Well any movie that isn’t deeply serious is usually not considered.
Uma is the only reason I watched it to begin with..
That film was a masterpiece.
