I’m currently living and working in another EU country with a Blue Card. I’ve been here for about 1.5 years now. Now I have a job offer from Germany but the company will not support me with the visa process.
-
Since I have an EU Bluecard can I move to Germany and start working immediately if I have a job offer in Germany, or do I need to go through a separate process before being allowed to work?
-
Are there any special conditions or fast-track options because I’ve already had the Blue Card for over a year?
ChatGPT mentioned that I should be able to start working in Germany right away after the move, based on EU Blue Card rules, but I’d love to hear from people who’ve experienced this directly.
Sorry if this has been asked before.

You can’t just move to Germany and start working based on the working permit issued by another European country. You first need to apply for – and receive – the relevant German work permit/German blue card.
In your case, as the holder of a blue card of another EU country, the relevant piece of legislation is § 18i AufenthG.
(An EU directive is not EU law. It is up to the Member States to impose that into national law. Working permits are dealt with on the national level, not the European level)
Don’t trust ChatGPT on legal matters.
The EU directive was implemented into national law in November 2023, so it is part of the Residence Law… ChatGPT is completely misunderstanding it…
