    I don’t know if there’s anything deeper than this going on, but it’s nice to see people take accountability for their actions.

  7. Imagine resigning over something as basic as a Grindr profile. In the meantime, here in the US, people still have a job after sharing war plans with friends and family and the the mango in charge, is a convicted felon.

  13. The photos were sent to sr government officials emails from anonymous address very shortly after the announcement. 30 min later they were sent to DN, Swedish WaPo equivalent.
    Might be from his previous roles in the middle east and or former eastern block countries.
    Foreign secret service involvement looks likely.
    Interesting case.

  18. I mean not that nudes as such are that bad and now when it’s out in the open nothing to blackmail with at all, if that is all.

    The thing however is that if you already had a scandal with that position just resently a government wouldn’t like to have one more.

    If you get those nude sent to you as a government when they problably tried to get all potential future scandals discused and the guy said nothing if so, then the trust could get scared and for good reasons then he couldn’t continue.

    It’s a position that needs to be built on a lot of trust from the governments side. To beguin with not lifting that when he knows how media is, how much of a scandal it was before with the person holding that position, does not make up a superbase of trust for good reasons.

  24. It’s nothing about Grindr itself. The problem is that he would have gotten asked ”do you have anything other can use to blackmail you?” before accepting this job. By not being open about these pictures, it’s obvious he’s not comfortable enough with them, and therefore it is seen as a blackmail threat.

    If he instead would have stated that these pictures exist but he doesn’t care about them, he would have shown that there is nothing that can be used to blackmail him with.

  25. To everyone who’s never had a security clearance: it is not usually the fact that you did something that’s a problem. It’s the fact that you did not disclose it while being vetted.

    And since you didn’t reveal it, that means it could be something which could lead to blackmail, and thus the giving up of state secrets.

    This exact scenario has happened many times in the past.

    What’s so hard to understand lol, it’s not about blackmail potential or what not, it’s a breach of trust and security for a position that requires both.
