  1. Obviously disgusting behaviour but I feel like there’s one important thing we are missing here:

    These politicians are the result of a good portion of nation VOTING for them.

    A lot of Slovaks voted for this president. Just like a lot of Hungarians vote for Orban and a lot of Serbs vote for Vucic.

    It’s a nation-wide problem that needs fixing. Additionaly I think left-leaning people in these nations genuinely DO NOT VOTE. While right-leaning will bend over backwards to go and vote for their mini hitler.

    I guess I’ve watched too many superhero movies and blockbusters — my expectations for heroism and self-respect turned out to be too unrealistic.
    It turns out you can simply bow to evil to show loyalty, and the world just pretends it’s okay…

  8. Guys, relax. Public support for Fico and his party in Slovakia is steadily dropping. There’s no chance he will win the next election, that’s for sure.

    Hungary, on the other hand, just can’t get rid of Orban. I really hope, Orban loses next election. But I have no doubt he’ll do anything to fuck with election process in order to get elected again.

    Notice something here: it doesn’t matter whether they’re alt-right or supposedly “left” like Fico. It’s not about right or left anymore. It’s a separate ideology entirely: the Pro-Russian Doormat. It’s the ideology of Trump, Orbán, Fico—and soon, Romania could be next. They have no consistent policies, only corruption and serving Russia’s interests.

    But here’s what really interests me:

    EUROPEANS who vote for these people—AREN’T YOU FUCKING ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES?

    Is your sense of dignity and self-respect SO ATROPHIED that you’ve willingly become people who travel to Moscow to grovel at the feet of a 1.64-meter-tall dictator—small, insecure, extremely dumb, old, ugly, cowardly, and whose pants look like they’re oversized by at least one-and-a-half sizes?

    De facto, Putin has a véto on EU affairs (same thing can be said with Trump).

    Without reform, the EU won’t survive and will revert itself to only be the single market. Perhaps for the best.

  28. Energy Policy is mostly QMV voting system, so I don’t see how Fico would have any success even if he had the support of Orban and other far right nutjobs accross the EU.

    But him suggesting it openly to Putin is just plain treasonous and scummy, actively suggesting that his own country and every other EU country should bow down to kacapstan.

  29. If sanctions dont work then why is Russia always screaming bloody murder to take them off? They might be slow and not as dramatic as we want, but they are working.

  30. He can promise whatever he wants, if the countries that oppose simply dismantle the pipelines, there won’t be gas going from Russia to Europe, and in many countries this is already happening.

  31. Veto does not matter much. If the other EU countries were serious about the ban, they could simply stop buying Russia gas and oil both directly and indiectly. The fact that Slovakia and Serbia and Hungary keep buying them would not change much the global effect of the blokade.
    But EU nations are still too dependent from russian gas, so they use the veto as an alibi to avoid inplementing this very costly policy.
