‘Operation Sindoor’: India launches strikes on Pakistan as Islamabad vows retaliation • FRANCE 24

India has fired a series of missiles into Pakistan. The loud explosions caused injuries, death and led to blackouts and confusion. We were asleep when we heard huge explosions and an announcement came from the mosque loudspeakers that we need to evacuate the area as soon as possible. The air strikes targeted several sites including Pakistan administered Kashmir and Punjab. They were in retaliation to last month’s militant attack which killed 26 tourists in the Indian controlled portion of Kashmir. India blamed Pakistan for backing the militant attack which Islamabad denied. Focus strikes were carried out on nine terrorist infrastructure sites targeting the roots of crossber terror planning. Importantly, no Pakistani military facilities were hit reflecting India’s calibrated and non-escalatory approach. Pakistan has vowed to respond to the strikes and there were reports of shelling on the Indian side of the border. The Indians are questioning their own government that they have no evidence. They have no facts and they ran away from the investigation which Pakistan had offered and they attacked our civilians. They attacked our mosque today. Pakistan will now respond and respond very very effectively. Make no mistake because our desire for peace should not be mistaken for our weakness. Tensions between the two nuclear armed neighbors have always been high in the Kashmir region. Both countries claim it as their own, but only control a portion of it each. There has been some global reaction so far to the escalation. President Trump said it was a real shame and hopes it ends quickly. The UN Secretary General Antonio Gutierrez said the world cannot afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan. He stressed that a military solution was no solution.

India said it attacked nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistani Kashmir on Wednesday where strikes against it had been planned, and Pakistan reported at least three people died and 12 were injured, according to an initial assessment.
