Oleksandr Matsiyevsky — the heroic Ukrainian soldier POW executed by Russians for shouting “Glory to Ukraine” — would have turned 45 today.

  1. Never could get myself to watch the video, but this man actually did what we all think (*wish) we’d do. Took it like a man.

    Heroiam Slava.

  2. I think your heading is incorrect. It’s my recollection that he was made to dig a grave, and just before he was shot he called out ‘Glory to Ukraine’.
There was no reason to kill him as he was a POW.

  3. I remember how horrified people were when he was executed. Now Ukrainian POWs are being executed multiple times with clear footage in the last year, and the world doesn’t bat an eye.

  4. Happy Heavenly Birthday to you, wonderful hero. You are so remembered. ♥️💙💛

  5. Heroyam Slava, Hero 😢😢💔💔🇺🇦🇺🇦

  6. Not many of us can say we looked death in the face and told it to go fuck itself. RIP to a brave man.

  7. Unfortunately I only remembered the picture on the left. Even though (the video) showed his heroism, I like to remember him as the picture on the right, and in other posts I also saw normal pictures of him.

    Glory to the heroes!

  8. I feel like there’s a statue or monument to Oleksander somewhere. Does anyone know about this?
