Teacher from Kyrgyzstan detained in Turkey released from pre-trial detention center

AKIPRESS.COM – Kyrgyz citizen Azamat Nurmatov was released from the pre-trial detention center and sent under house arrest in accordance with the decision of the Gaziantep Provincial Court on May 9, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The Consulate General of the Kyrgyz Republic in Istanbul and Nurmatov’s lawyer continue to provide comprehensive assistance in protecting his rights and legitimate interests.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that this issue is under the special control.

On April 19, math teacher from the H. Karasayev Lyceum in Karakol Azamat Nurmatov, who arrived in Turkey with 7 students from Kyrgyzstan, went missing at the Istanbul airport. The group arrived to take part in the International Mathematics Olympiad in Antalya.

It was later reported that he was detained at the airport. After this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan handed the consul of the Turkish Embassy a verbal note in connection with the detention of the teacher.
