I would say Staffordshire. Never hear anyone talk about it but it's got some really nice areas- Staffordshire Moorlands, Cannock Chase, the Arboretum, Litchfield, Stone etc.

  1. The Malverns are lovely, albeit small.
Herefordshire is also lovely too, with there being mountains on the welsh border as well as parts of the Wye Valley & Malverns being in it too.

  2. The Black Country just in general. There’s some amazing canal walks in pretty much every town and village.

  3. As a foreigner I’d say Birmingham gets way too much hate. I went there twice and I didn’t find it as bad as people say. Definitely not in my top 10 favourite UK cities, but overall not that bad. And I actually like the accent. 😅

The German Christmas market was cool, even though it was not remotely German. 😅

  4. It’s ain’t Loughborough that’s for sure. It’s a mixture of crackheads and posh uni kids.

  5. Herefordshire is beautiful. All along the welsh border. Especially the black mountains and the valleys around it and then also the Malvern hills.

  6. I’m *wildly* biased in favour of the Lincolnshire Wolds.

I will give an amen to the lovely Malvern Hills, and was shamefaced at how much I liked central Brum when I went there for the first time, having slagged it off before.

Derbyshire can get the in the bin tho’ – looks nice, but the inhabitants – IMO – are Tuesdays.

  7. Stayed in a mountain cabin in Herefordshire recently with a view of the black mountains across the border. Easily one of the most beautiful places in the country.

  8. You missed so many places in Shropshire! Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Bridgnorth etc etc

  9. It’s not reallllly the midlands east of the A1, feels quite different out that way.

The answer has to be North Warwickshire. Great countryside and easy enough to get to

  10. I agree with these borders for the Midlands. And the Staffordshire Moorlands is my answer to your question.

  11. Go West from Hereford until near Hay on Wye, and from there any direction is good.

  12. Golden Valley or Symonds Yat in Herefordshire – although I still think of it as the south west

  13. The Lincolnshire coast- there are some absolute gems and it gets dragged down by Skegness, mablethorpe etc. the beaches at Anderby, Gibraltar point, sandilands are a few of the lovely areas

  14. Worcestershire, particularly north Worcestershire. I’m sat on a bench currently, looking across rolling green fields, hedgerows and copse with the length of the malvern hills stretching along the sky line. Even the plowed fields look beautiful with the rich red soil.

  15. Shout out for Worcestershire in general. I moved to west of Worcester from London – and it is glorious. Just look up Elgar Country. Worcester, Hereford and Ludlow on the doorstep. And practically zero traffic outside of the trunk roads. Think ‘west of M5.’

Want to know the next ‘hot’ town to move to? Forget Froome or Margate – head to Leominster… 😉

  16. Hereford and Worcestershire, just a beautiful part of England.

  17. Bakewell & Buxton, but not sure if they fit in that boundary

  18. Wolverhampton. Plenty of nice places within a 20 mile radius.

  19. Surprised not see Shrewsbury mentioned more.

Beautiful town with loads of great independent shops and restaurants. Plus incredible close to many amazing walks.

  20. I moved from the US deep south to Warwickshire, and I’m still obsessed. It’s so gorgeous, the people have been absolutely lovely, the towns are nice, and the scenery is gorgeous. 10/10.

  21. Nottinghamshire. Don’t tell everyone though, they will want to visit and god forbid, live there.

  22. Stamford, gorgeous town with lots of neat places to explore

  23. I don’t even know, but thank you for posting the most accurate map of the midlands I’ve ever seen

  24. Where are we hearing talk?

Stafford is a great place to live.

  25. Market Harborough and south East Leicestershire generally.

  26. Leicestershire always gets overlooked.

Bradgate Park, Thornton Reservoir, Grace Dieu Priory, Beacon Hill, Stoney Cove.

Leicester itself is a bit of a pile, but New Walk Museum, Newarke Houses Museum and the Space Centre are all worth a visit.

I grew up in South Leicestershire and the countryside down there is just so pretty. Find a footpath and just explore or have a drive around on a sunny day.
