I've been watching the war from fpv and gopro footage ever since the war started and most of the time when Russians are visible they look so clueless and unprepared

This is a genuine question i really don’t have a side in the war
Mostly they are untrained. Also being drunk or without supplies for a long time.
I’d probably look clueless too in an active warzone. Pure nightmare fuel.
Because they are pretty unprepared I would guess!?
They look it becsuse they are!
A combination of stupidity, alcohol, lack of training and stupidity
i would not do good in a warzone without training and being drunk
thank god theres a lot of that on the putler side
Exhaustion, fear etc. It takes a lot of military training to overcome these, and even veterans register only some 30% that’s happening around them even when coming to battle rested. Human survical instinct is to run or hide/stay still. Wise military moves go many times against survical instinct such as in a firefight: running away in panic is a sure way to get killed in modern warfare.
Cause it’s easy to understand, when you’ve got drone footage from multiple angles, and nice country flags over everybody’s head, and a lot less easy, when you’re standing between blown up trees and corpses, and stare at a bush, while suddenly, a Chinese made toy strapped with an rpg warhead slams Dow upon you from the heavens, a 40mm rips your buddies head off, you’re taking small arms fire, and you’re desperately trying to distinguish the head and rifle of the guy blind firing at you from within a trench from the tree trunks, and branches, or dead bodies, lying everywhere, while you’re only roughly sure of where you are, after some dickhead at the command point told you to just go in there and clear a bunker that “definitely only has like one or two guys in there). Meanwhile you’re thinking who the fuck you pissed off to find yourself in that situation, and if you’re Russian, wondering if you should just turn back, and die by your friendlies bullets, cause at least you’ll know where it came from.
It’s a mix of multiple things :
– Drone footage makes everyone look like that just because they are seen without realizing it, and it makes them look small.
– “Survivor bias” (in the concept of course), Ukraine will only publish footage that makes them look good and/or the Russians look bad.
– Russia sends to the front a lot of poorly trained and equipped personnel, it’s not universal and quality in training and equipment varies *A LOT* between units (you will see Russian regulars without even proper military uniforms, and other with NODS, optics, top of the line plate carries, high cut helmets with earpros, suppressors etc)
The combination of all of that creates this feeling you have.
It’s not 100% of what reality actually is, but it doesn’t come from nowhere either
Lack of training, genuine confusion and fear, people in general look dumb from above.
Because they are Russians…
Vodka
you base this from what experience?
Lack of training.
The whole purpose of military training is to break your bodies natural tendency to panic and run around during life and death situations. Your training becomes your reaction, you don’t think, you act in accordance with your training. When you don’t have that training, it just becomes panic.
It is the Russian way of war ! Poor training of any , poor leadership of any , and government willing to throw bodies at the problem.
Not clueless, scared shitless just like 99% of people would look like knowing that death can come not only from the enemy but also from your own…. and thank God for that. Main reason they can’t do shit on battlefield…
Mostly untrained. The main bit of their professional, trained military was devastated in the first few weeks of the war. Vets aren’t being rotated out to train new recruits. New recruits aren’t just getting low quality training, they’re given very little if any at all. Couple this with rampant alcoholism, a power dominant hierarchy, and low morale, you get this beautiful showing of pure incompetence across most units. A numerical advantage in military personnel and equipment means their low quality doesn’t account for too much unfortunately. It isn’t sustainable but it’s effective in the short term.
Fog of war wreaking havoc on untrained soldiers
