[Brian Klaas](https://youtu.be/TLm6dC34gYk?si=qbcnGfOKuVWxj-Cn) has this way of seeing local and global issues that really changed my outlook on things.
He describes how for the longest time, humans lived in situations defined by local instability, but global stability. We might’ve had issues with a warring tribe, or our food stockpiles raided overnight by pests – but overall, the global climate remained consistent, stable and functioning. Ecosystems thrived while we fought our daily, small-scale battles.
Now, it’s the opposite – we have (temporary, probably) local stability, but more global, macro instability and disruption.
You can go down to a Starbucks virtually anywhere and the coffee is gonna be the exact same every time. Same with a big mac.
Your scheduled week is predictable and consistent. You go to work at the same time, every time.
Meanwhile, gradually, swathes of forests burn. Entire nations go to war. Supply chains become more vulnerable. Air and water quality decrease and sea levels rise. Entire species’ habitats are destroyed or they are wiped out.
