This is a good idea from Labour. It doesn’t make sense to import low skilled labour to do jobs the rest of the population don’t want to do. That’s because as soon as one of those workers gets residency or citizenship, surprise, they are just like everyone else, they will move into work which pays better or has better working conditions
Permanent migration should be focused on high skill migrants and their dependents. That puts more money into the economy, and more taxation revenue into the government, which can then be used to increase wages, improve conditions, or automate, for low productivity, low wage jobs.
Oh good, I was just thinking “You know, we really haven’t destroyed the social care sector enough yet.” Glad to see that war continuing.
This is an absolutely dire idea. Sounds great on paper. But now you’re just going to have further enshittification of qualified roles by crossing the already dodgy diploma mills with dubious companies that get people work visas. I’ve worked healthcare, I’ve seen first hand people being hired as nurses who, very, very clearly never had any training like their supposed qualifications say. Now that’ll shitflood into every job market.
let me guess, there are exceptions for social care.
Does anyone here have a good explanation for why the Tories were so absurdly lax on immigration & Visa laws after Brexit took effect? Was it the belief that voters would simply drop the issue after we left the EU?
Needs to be delicate. Public sector always needs more work, and the private jobs market is in the absolute toilet.
From what I read this sound like exactly what applies to me as British emmigrant who is an immigrant worker overseas. I have non graduate technical expertise, and my work visas are time limited and reviewed on a regular basis.
I don’t see why graduates should be exempt, and this sounds like a very normal way for employment visas to work.
The UK runs primarily a debt based consumption import economy. This is because that is the environment the massive financial sector needs to thrive. They require high immigration as the locals were maxed out with debt years ago.
Who is gona do jobs like picking fruit seeing as the natives showed zero interest?
