Hi, I'd like to know if this is something to be wary of. As they also want photos of both front and back of my bank card (the card doesn't have the CCV on its back) via email. Is this really a safe and standard practice in Germany?

  1. No employer in the world should know the front and back of your debit or credit card. Or the birth certificates of your children WTF.

  2. What’s with 6 and 9? They only need your bank number, you don’t even have to take a photo. And why’s a birth certificate (of your child).

    This sounds intrusive.

  3. All normal and acceptable.

Pretty much all are absolutely legally required.

A few like Bank account, digital picture are not legally required, but are completely reasonable (ie. they need your bank account details if they pay by transfer instead of cash).

  4. Most of it is fine, you can push back on the things that sound unnecessary by asking why they need that.

  5. I dont know for what they want a digital photo. Do you get a employee ID card with pic, then its ok. Otherwise no one needs a pic. I guess its something at the Gastro, bc of the health certificate.

The other things are pretty standard and needed.

  6. Is this for an interview? If so, don’t bother. It is a scam. If you have signed a contract with the employer, most of it is standard practice, if you are new to Germany and you don’t know the system.

Let me be clear, do not hand over documents of this nature, unless you have signed a contract. In most cases, this is mostly done in the first few weeks of employment.

  7. Not standard practice for an interview – this screams identity theft by social engineering. If you want someone opening a bank account and taking out credit in your name, this would be the info they’d need.

  8. For an interview? I mean, fine, after they offer you a job. But for an interview only if they’re just checking your pulse and you’re getting the job.

  9. They wrote either bring copies of it to the Interview or send the documents via E-Mail. If you feel like this is a scam bring the copies to the interview.

  10. Hang on – is it just an interview? No way!

They can have those documents if they choose to employ you.

  11. At least they ask for a Bank Not Credit Card. But it’s a lot to ask for for an interview.

I mean for the employment I could find a reason for all of that. But inform yourself about this employer. If you go to a well known company and they may hire you directly… maybe than it’s okay. But be cautious, especially if it’s not in a Company Building they invited you to.

  12. Unusual I would say but all the information your employer is asking for is information they need to register you as an employee.

  13. Birth certificate???? What the fuck?

And holy shit no, don’t send them the front and back of your credit card.

    This seems VERY strange

  14. Do not think an interview requires this, only for after if they accept you. If it is like amazon where they have a day 0 and hire a lot of people, yeah. But even then there is a phone interview before that you have to to get through. In my experience, only companies that do such a thing are major (like billion) corporations which need cheap physical work.

If you have some interview and booked a day zero, than imo, seems fine. If not and this is their first response, it seems a bit disorganized or fishy. Research the company.

  15. I would not ever send your bank card or your birth certificate. But the rest seems normal if you have a work contract already or have already been offered the job. If it’s just a job interview tell them to jog on!!

  16. This is fine as long as cover everything, your employer doesn’t need to know, like your credit card number and the numbers on the passport.

  17. Give them your IBAN not a copy of your bank card, there’s no nerd for them to have that.

  18. 1,2,3 maybe. 4 only after employment. 5 never. 6 never, 7,8,9 after employment. 10 if they are weird. 11, NEVER

  19. Most of the stuff besides the bank card seems standard in the case you have to do probearbeiten or they are in a rush to hire you.

Usually Bank IBAN and your name and address is enough to send any payments if you are hired.

  20. depends on the job you are applying to but most items are pretty default and most likely they have had a lot of problems with incorrect data so they ask for copies instead of doing it again and again.

sounds almost like public services, food, healthcare

  21. If it’s an interview, no. If it’s upon acceptance of a formal offer, yes. I had to provide all that and more plus undergo a battery of medical testing and security checks!

  22. BANK CARD?!?! I don’t live in Germany, does that mean credit/debit card?

  23. If for interview, no, dont send it. And for employment: the first 2/3 points seem necessary, other than that you can simply ask them to send you the “Personalfragebogen”. I guess they want the info to fill in all the data.

  24. I’ve had two food industry jobs in Germany, the only thing I needed was an IBAN, my tax number, my passport, and the health cert.
I use N26 so my IBAN and BIC aren’t on my card, that’s the only reason I could think you’d need a front/back of your debit card. I would personally hesitate to send that via email.

  25. No one ever will ask you for a photo of your bank card. No one, ever, anywhere in EU, there is zero reason anyone else should know this info. Speak with them beforehand and offer your account number instead, if they insist they need bank card photo, report them to police. And make sure tell them you reported them.

  26. Birth certificate lmao. Who the hell wants it in the corporate world?
