What are they going to do arrest anyone singing a rebel song
I always thought there was something pathetically impotent about the “there’s only one real Óglaigh na hEireann” brigade. They sound like they’re trying to convince themselves more than anything.
Jesus we have bigger issues in the country than who can call themselves this, wish the government would get the finger out and try do actual work for the country.
I presume An Garda Síochána has similar protection (if not, it should). It’s the official style of a body of the state and should be reserved. Hardly controversial barring the groups that have co-opted the name in the past of course.
The Shinners are the Doleglaigh na hEireann tho, amirite?
>the legislation, which is aimed at preventing the Provisional IRA or any dissident republican group using the term.
So organisations whose very existence is illegal will no longer be able to use an illegal name on account of it being illegal and those folks being famously rigid in their adherence to the laws of a state they don’t even recognise or only do so grudgingly ?
Immigrant here, can anyone explain?
Is this necessary legislation or just a bit of headline grabbing? The offenses against the state act already makes it an offence to be a member of a group ‘styling itself as Óglaigh na hÉireann’.
What a load of shite – IV written on the buttons – who else now would claim to be Óglaigh na hÉireann ?
Have them fucking ‘politicians’ nothing better to be doing
