European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos paid an official visit to the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, where she met with the mayors of Comrat, Ceadîr-Lunga, Vulcănești, and other localities in the region. The discussions focused on regional development opportunities in the context of Moldova’s European integration process and the new financial support instruments offered by the European Union, reports the IPN correspondent.

Kos stated that the European Union does not support only the capital or major cities, and that EU assistance is directed toward all regions of Moldova—Gagauzia included.

In her dialogue with local authorities, the European Commissioner emphasized the importance of the direct involvement of local public administrations in identifying investment priorities, noting that “no one knows the needs of communities better than the mayors and citizens on the ground.”

“For us in the European Union, it is so important to be connected to the regions and to the people, because everything we do is not for the government, not for parliament, not for politicians. We do it for the citizens. And that is extremely important,” Commissioner Kos underlined.

Her visit to Comrat is part of a broader tour of Moldova’s regions, aimed at strengthening direct dialogue with citizens and local leaders in the context of the country’s EU accession process.
