Both teams made mistakes, but the Latvian team’s efforts to play aggressively helped the team gain three important points to launch their tournament in positive mode, even if the final score slightly flattered the eventual victors.
After France took the lead, Mārtiņš Dzierkals tied the score in the second period, Kristaps Zīle put Latvia in the lead at the beginning of the final period, and Dans Ločmelis scored twice more in the end. Goalkeeper Kristers Gudļevskis was named the best player in the Latvian national team.
After a hard match against France, things get even harder Sunday with Canada the next opponents.
