MADISON, Conn. (WFSB) – Emergency crews are responding to an active gas leak in Madison on Sunday morning.
There is a reported large gas leak near Overbrook Road between Opening Hill Road and Colonial Road, police said.
A tree fell and brought down power lines that caused damage to a gas main.
Several homes are without power.
Officials are asking residents in the area to shelter in place until the area is safe.
The public is asked to avoid the area at this time.
Eyewitness News also obtained a statement from Southern CT Gas on this incident, which reads:
“Early this morning, downed electric wires made contact with SCG’s natural gas distribution infrastructure on Overbrook Road in Madison. SCG responded within minutes, and we remain on site to assess and mitigate potential impacts to around 20 SCG customers. The area has been made safe, and we appreciate the partnership of the electric company and town officials to ensure we can continue to respond to resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible.”
