The Tory voting demographic, who hold most of the wealth, get a nice wee lift whilst those paying for it chastised for wanting a pay raise.
Yes there are poor pensioners who need support and they (plus the others) should be supported because they are poor, not because they are statistically more likely to shag a blue rosette.
If you are younger ***get out and vote!*** Only you can change this. Well, only by not voting Tory obviously.
But those relying on the state pension lose about 5% in real terms this year. That 5% loss stays forever. Next year’s rise will cover inflation Next year, but pensioners will still be 5% worse off.
I guess the only way to not get angry about this is to think, if the state pension rises massively every year, by the time we are all old enough to receive it, it’ll be a nice little weekly sum for us….. Eventually.
Of course this is assuming that by that time the age isnt set to something stupid like 90 years and over, and that we havent all worked ourselves into an early grave trying to keep a roof over our heads.
I get that people are pissed off because this is Tory voting demographic group, but pensioners that actually rely on pension are not rich and I’m happy they’ll not get to live in poverty. The thing they got lucky with is house prices going so much up since they bought them, and yes it’s not fair that this generation now has so much wealth, but please remember not all of them do and don’t wish poverty on the rest of them.
Does this make a difference? The *income* lock was suspended for a year and is being brought back. There’s no way incomes are going to rise above inflation this year.
