Latvia lost 1:7, albeit to one of the tournament favourites, and all but the most one-eyed of Latvian supporters would admit that on the day the Canadians were simply too good.
An upset briefly seemed a possibility when Latvia scored first in the opening period through Eduards Tralmaks, but the dream didn’t last long and after that it was one-way traffic as the Canadians asserted their dominance time and time again with Latvia able to muster little in response.
Nevertheless, a loss to Canada is no surprise and the Latvian team will have to press the reset button ahead of their next game on Tuesday against Slovenia.
