London is the same distance from Preston and Middlesbrough as it is from Paris.
Tbf you’d get there quicker from Newcastle because the roads aren’t full of caravans. 😁
Poole is as far from London as Birmingham.
Idk if it’s because I’ve lived in the north my whole life but I’ve engrained into my brain that anything in the South, from Cornwall to Norfolk to Hampshire, is an hour’s drive from London 😂
This is why the Midlands border and Northern border are on a diagonal- lower in the west and higher in the east.
For some reason it’s weird to me that Bristol and Birmingham are equally as far from London. In my head Bristol feels like it should be further but objectively it’s not.
Southampton and Northampton also sitting at an equal distance from London fittingly.
Yet its between 1.5 and 2 hrs slower to get from London to Paddington on a train than it is to get to Newcastle.
Nottingham is closer to London than Weymouth! Absolute scenes
I always thought that Bristol was way closer to London than Birmingham, but I guess it’s not
Leicester being closer to London than Bristol doesn’t feel right
But Penzance is easier to get to because it’s all down hill.
London is closer to The Netherlands than Manchester
Yeah but how does that answer if Vikings or Pirates are tougher?
For some reason London feels much more central south than it is, it’s really far east especially when you take the UK as a whole.

As the crow flies, maybe, but it would be more useful to consider time taken by different modes of transport.
The Great Circle distance between Newcastle and London is 399 km. Or 410 km between Newcastle Airport and London City Airport.
The Great Circle distance between Penzance and London is about 410. km. Or 421 km between Penzance Heliport and London City Airport.
The Great Circle distance between Newcastle and Penzance is about 653 km. Between Newcastle Airport and Penzance Heliport is 604 km.
However, you need to be careful when just drawing circles on flat projection maps as it is easy to get inaccurate results over greater distances.

I refuse to believe I’m just as far from London as someone in central Manchester
