“Knowing you prefer to afford furniture to owning a single nice chair”
Oof that’s war.
thats crazy lmao
Am I having a stroke?
In my experience so far John Lewis are awful when it comes to furniture. We got leather dining room chairs which disintegrated along the seams within 18 months and they refused to do anything and also a problem with warping in a oak table and again JL completely unhelpful and refused to do anything.
This has nothing to do with London. All you’ve done is share a generic advert.
Due to a typo in the component list, my IKEA bookshelf came with an Alien Key.
Now looking for an interdimensional portal to open.
And thus began The Great Furniture Wars. The brutality of the war is what shocked many – thanks almost solely to the efforts of the DFS Department of Misinformation.
Never knowingly under-smug.
I recently bought a bed frame from John Lewis. It was flat packed and needed assembly, so I don’t think this ad really hits the way they think it does.
Also it was noticeably more annoying to assemble than anything from Ikea – the instructions were less clear and I had to re-drill some of the holes as they were poorly aligned.
When did this sub become r/notinteresting
IKEA Stockholm has a 20 year warranty.
I love John Lewis. A socialist co-op owned by the workers. However Ikea is the living embodiment of the Bahaus ideal and sells some fantastic stuff accessible to almost everyone. They even take back old product and credit you against new items. They are a fantastic corporation as corporations go.
Judging by the garden furniture I bought recently from John Lewis:
1. I needed an allen key to put it together
2. The quality was shit
In contrast to the Ikea stuff I bought at around the same time, which was great (and did require an allen key, admittedly).
John Lewis has gone seriously downhill over the last few years. It’s nice to see at least one major retailer (M&S) bucking the trend.
The last three things I bought from JL I had to assemble. 🤷
As an American, from Atlanta, I was so confused trying to understand what I thought was a quote from the US civil rights leader, John Lewis. Not even sure why this showed up on my feed, maybe Reddit is confused too.
It’s a great ad.
But when I last furniture shopped John Lewis were out of stock of so much I was unable to buy anything.
Never knowingly underscrewed
I definitely had to build my own John Lewis dining table with an allen key.
All the John Lewis furniture I have purchased was rubbish quality. Ikea equivalents have lasted for much longer.
It’s true, I’m so done with buying something and then assembling it myself (only exception is if it’s doesn’t fit through doors and it has to be assembled).
Pikea
Well, John Lewis, is a bit hard when I get out of Ikea having paid £3 with a cutlery holder you were charging £11 with and a candle you were charging £7.
But I only have allen key money.
I’ve bought plenty of stuff from both places over the years and John Lewis have absolutely nothing to boast about when it comes to quality. Most recently bought a king size bed from them which fell apart within a couple of months of purchasing (and very light use!). Their customer service is thoroughly middling too.
There isn’t enough difference between the two brands for this message to work. The John Lewis marketing team clearly thinks there is, because it’ll be all they talk about Monday to Friday, and the agencies they work with will no doubt repeat it back to them because they’re paying their wages, but in reality it’s not that deep. Most people who buy from John Lewis probably buy from IKEA too. Telling them they’re cheap / stupid isn’t a great idea.
I bought a coffee table from them that I had to assemble and the veneer peeled off after 5 weeks
I’ve got a set of drawers of JL and they are so nice. Just solid, probably last my life time type thing. So heavy though, can’t imagine moving house because how will I get it out?
Anyways also got a solid dining table from IKEA. Love it. Big enough for large group DnD! Somehow cost less than the drawers! Probably won’t last 20 years though, and that’s ok.
I like stuff from everywhere. Furnishing a home is a life long mission, you pick up stuff where you can, when you can afford it.
This advert has only served to inform me that there’s now an Ikea near Oxford Circus, good job John Lewis
Ah yes, John Lewis where it’s impossible to find a sales associate or when you do they’re clueless.
Very cheeky. I like it
Guess I’ve been lucky with John Lewis’ furniture. Bought a double bed on clearance for £80. Absolute bargain, even IKEA couldn’t match that. Plus free delivery. Wasn’t difficult to assemble. Still good, been six years now.
I actually like allen keys. And if I met a man calls Alan Key, I’d probably like him, too.
Snarky… last thing I bought in John Lewis was an overpriced tea towel that’s fraying at the edges after almost 10 years. I can’t afford to shop at John Lewis.
This post is an ad.

this is the funniest thing i’ve seen all day
As a furniture designer make it I feel it should be known they’re both shit quality and majority made in the far east with some questionable working conditions.

But yes Ikea is affordable, so fair enough.
Is there an IKEA at or near Oxford Circus?
