Croatia Airlines has taken delivery of its third Airbus A220-300 on Monday, continuing its fleet renewal program aimed at transitioning entirely to Airbus aircraft by 2027.
The aircraft, registered as 9A-CAL, was delivered by U.S.-based lessor Azorra and departed on its ferry flight from Airbus’ Mirabel facility in Canada.
The new jet, named after the Croatian city of Vukovar, is the first of three A220s to be leased to Croatia Airlines by Azorra. The airline previously took delivery of two A220-300s in 2024, and two additional aircraft are expected by 2026 under the current lease agreement.

“With each new aircraft, we’re able to expand our destination network and optimize our flight schedule,” said Jasmin Bajić, CEO of Croatia Airlines. He noted that five new international routes have been introduced this season, directly supporting Croatia’s tourism industry and broader national economy.
A unified fleet
Croatia Airlines’ long-term strategy is to operate a standardized, single-type fleet composed entirely of Airbus aircraft. The Airbus A220 has become the cornerstone of this transition, offering the airline greater operational efficiency and enhanced passenger comfort.
The carrier’s fleet currently consists of four Airbus A319s, two A320s and four Dash 8-400 turboprops, in addition to the three A220s.

Developed initially by Bombardier and now part of Airbus’ commercial aircraft lineup, the A220 is a clean-sheet design optimized for the 100–160 seat segment. It features a modern, quiet cabin with wider seats, panoramic windows, and reduced fuel consumption and noise emissions—making it a popular choice for regional and medium-haul routes.
For Azorra, the agreement marks a new strategic relationship. “We’re proud to support Croatia Airlines’ fleet renewal strategy and are committed to deepening our partnership as they transition to a modern, single-fleet type,” said John Evans, CEO of Azorra.
To date, Azorra has delivered six Airbus A220-300 aircraft from its firm orderbook to airline customers worldwide.
