  1. The emoluments clause is very very vague.

It just says [checks notes], you can’t get gifts as president, from foreign governments.

So, clearly, no violation here. Move along.

Obviously it has some implied logic that most of the time it’s okay. Don’t look.

And obviously not even an amendment (before free speech and guns). Just in the physical body of the original Constitution, which makes the wording super sketchy, as we didn’t know what the founding fathers thought (although there are dozens of documents telling us that also).

TLDR: all good, shut up and suck it

  2. I think any honest person on his own side with half a brain would say the same.

They won’t of course. But it would *such* an easy way to show some token pushback/backbone.

  3. It’s also a violation of common sense.

It’s a giant national security hole on top of being a gaudy bribe.

  4. trump wipes his ass with the constitution on a daily basis. The rest of the republicans will continue to cheer him on.

  5. Republicans: “Only if it was Biden. We would have voted for his impeachment.”

  6. It violates the Constitution?   Well, why didn’t you say so?    Then **of course** Trump will accept their generous gift!

  7. America is having a problem. Because of the Supreme Court and Congress there is no way to enforce the law against a President.

  8. It’s wild we went from tan suits to taking $400 million planes as gifts.

  9. “Critics”= anyone capable of reading what the law says.

  10. Critics say thing plainly and clearly forbidden by the Constitution may violate the Constitution.

  11. So does a million other things he’s done and is currently doing. Is anyone in any sort of position of power going to do anything about it?

  12. $20 million.

That is how much Republicans alleged that the Bidens took in bribes and kickbacks over the course of a decade or so.

    $400 million

That is the cost of this one airplane that is being given to Trump (not to the US and not to the Office of the President) and that he is planning on using for himself after he leaves office.

  13. “Critics”?

There goes the media sanewashing this bullshit again

  14. by “critics” you mean “the plain text of the constitution” right?

  15. It does. But there’s no accountability so, I’m not going to burn any bandwidth on his Qatar bought plane that will likely be infested with all kinds of bugs.

  16. His entire term violates the constitution.
Remember when they made Jimmy sell his peanut farm?

  17. Not “critics” – literally anyone who looks at the issue and has any knowledge about the Constitution knows all gifts given to anyone in the executive branch are the property of the American people – if the gift is accepted. It’s not difficult. Heads of State routinely give gifts to other heads of State. In the US all such gifts are the property of the State.

  18. There is no “critics say” BS … there is no question this violates the constitution.

  19. Name me a day where Trump hasn’t done something that violates the constitution since coming back

  20. Him being in office violates the constitution.

    Let’s work on that first.

  21. The constitution is weak. It lacks built in defined enforcement measures. Something we need to fix.

  22. Oh, American media. “Critics say…”????

You are the reason this man exists the way he does.

Stop being the puppet of billionaires, editors of major media outlets. Only you can start the real truth revolution.

  23. It’s not even iffy… Congress is the only entity that can approve it. And they’ll be complicit in this pay for play scam if they approve.

  24. Be nice if people stopped debating the blatantly obvious and did something about it.

  25. Qatar gets the last laugh here when Trump discovers the principal’s chair is slaved to the Flight Management System so it always faces Mecca.

  26. Of course he try’s blaming the Democrats even though it’s the law

  27. The *constitution* says that this violates the constitution. What a horrible title.

  28. Remember when Hunter Biden repaying a car loan to his dad was the biggest bribery scandal in the world? It was about a year ago.

  29. So he gets a $400,000,000 private jet .. but 2 dolls is enough for you.
How his supporters aren’t storming the Capitol right now, wearing their China made hats and carting their China made Trump Buybulls is just beyond me.

We are being robbed fucking blind.

  30. He already has 2 planes as president and a third of his own. He just said little girls only need 2 dolls, not 30 of him. Yet here he is collecting more than 2. Practice what you preach you giant orange turd

  31. No. Not “critics” and it’s not “controversial”. It violates the constitution and is a blatant bribe

  32. Again with the misleading headlines, it’s not critics it’s the Fucking verbatim language of the constitution that says it’s illegal.

  33. Jesus christ business insider, grow a backbone and drop the “critic’s say” soft language bullshit.

It’s a fact, state it as such.

  34. It’s not even an opinion. Its plainly written:

“No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”

  35. It’s fucking not “critics say”. It’s a direct violation of the constitution. So the headline could be “Constitution says Trump’s luxury jet gift is a violation of the law”
