  1. Symbol of the O’Neill dynasty and its usage by unionists is peak cultural appropriation.

  2. Ah, was great in the good weather dishing out the red hands on mates backs with the taps aff

  3. A fucking glorious symbol tragically co-opted by some of the worst people to ever live on this island.

I’ve been saying it for years it needs to be taken back or at least turned into a symbol we can all use and support.

Like I’m very proud of being from Ulster, I think we’re the best province on the island, unlike those cattle stealing dogs in Connaught

  4. it’s a great symbol with a lot of irish history which for some reason loyalists have decided to make their thing. it’d be like irish people settling in lancashire and making the rose our symbol.

  5. An old Gaelic symbol, strangely appropriated by some in the Loyalist community with a supposed aversion to all things Gaelic.

  6. A symbol of Ireland that I admire, but is used by some of the biggest twits on the island

  7. An Lámh Dhearg Uladh.

It’s a shame it’s been unironically appropriated by Loyalists given how it is so firmly rooted in Irish Gaelic culture and mythology.

I immediately cast my mind towards the ancient O’Neill dynasty and the array of GAA clubs, particularly in counties Tyrone, Armagh, Monaghan and Cavan that include the Red Hand proudly on their crest.

  8. Irish symbol representing the nine Counties of Ulster and the O’Neill dynasty/family. Also high connections in Irish mythology.

As others are saying, I find it bizarre that it has been stolen by unionists and equally bizarre that they use it.

  9. An inspiring lesson in how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat (as long as you’re willing to mutilate yourself)

  10. It’s stylistically a beautiful symbol that’s sadly been drenched in a lot of bloodshed and hate

  11. An important part of irish history that shouldn’t be forgotten, misinterpreted or hijacked!

  12. The province I live in. I don’t see it as political really. We’re all from the Province of Ulster and it’s something I’m proud of.

  13. Hugh O’Neill claimed his land by cutting off his left hand ?!

  14. Spoiler though, if you read that thread the hand used in the logo isn’t the red hand of ulster and it’s nahim to do wi us
