As someone following this week’s planned peace conference in Turkey, I couldn’t help but feel like we’ve seen this tactic from Russia before. Announce willingness to talk peace — then keep shelling cities while blaming the West for stalling.

Poland has been one of Ukraine’s strongest supporters, and we know from our own history how “negotiations” with Moscow often work. The latest initiative looks more like an information operation than real diplomacy.

I wrote a well-researched article that analyzes this in depth — how the Kremlin has used peace talks as strategic tools in the past to delay, divide allies, and solidify gains. I covered three sides, Russian media, Western media and then neutral media: china India and so on. Definitely worth a read if you’re interested in the bigger picture behind the Istanbul summit.

The Ceasefire Mirage: How Russia Is Weaponizing Peace Talks in Turkey

Curious what fellow Poles think. Is this just another smokescreen? Or is there any hope in these talks?

  1. Peace negotiations sometimes work. After ww2 it was not until the dismantlement of the USSR without major wars in Europe.
