Mother’s Day is an opportunity for people to pay tribute to the most important women in their lives — whether that be their own mother or the mother of their children. In the shadow of the big day, Vice President JD Vance came under fire after failing to publicly acknowledge his wife, Usha in a Mother’s Day post – in the latest issue between the couple.
Plenty of stars used the holiday as an opportunity to give their partners and moms a special shout-out, but Vance’s post neglected any mention of the mother of his children.
The vice president kept his Mother’s Day message short and to the point as he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. We love you and are grateful for you!”

On May 11, as millions around the world celebrated the mothers in their lives with sweet, heartfelt, personalized online messages — Vance was criticized by some corners for a perceived failure of public acknowledgement of Usha.
Critics drew comparisons of the nation’s number-two man with his boss, President Donald Trump who also concocted a similar Mother’s Day message on social media.
Trump was also accused of not honoring his wife, Melania — the mother of Baron — in his public message when he posted on the Truth Social platform: “Happy Mother’s Day to all,” he wrote, before adding, “And to all a goodnight.”
It was an announcement that apparently caused confusion with some — as the last part of the message contained the famous ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” line which is used more during the festive season.
Usha Vance spoke up about her personal parenting journey to celebrate Mother’s Day with some rather enlightening comments. “The balancing act today is sometimes easier than it was when I was working full-time in the private sector because I have more control over my schedule and do not feel pulled in as many directions,” Usha told Fox News (via Daily Mail).
“That said, raising children in the public eye poses new challenges.” She continued, “While I certainly miss working, I am grateful that I have the time to ensure that our home life is as normal and stable as possible.”
She also spoke about her family’s plans for the occasion. “We will have a quiet day, with a family hike and dessert baked by JD …” Usha said, adding, “My kids made me presents at preschool, but they were too excited to wait until Mother’s Day, so we opened them early.”
Vance was further criticized, wrote The List for dishing out praise for his boss, rather than his wife on Mother’s Day — which according to the site ‘may have made for some bad optics’. He shared a screenshot of one of President Donald Trump’s Truth Social posts on X and followed up with another not too long after, with the caption, “Boss is on fire today.”
