  1. Spokesperson confirms Taurus secrecy: Merz wants to provide less detailed information about weapons for Ukraine
The German Chancellor spoke out in favor of the Taurus delivery. Now the government no longer wants to discuss it – for tactical reasons, it is said.

The German government intends to report on German arms deliveries to Ukraine in less detail than before. Government spokesman Stefan Kornelius referred in Berlin on Monday to Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s (CDU) wish to ” discuss individual weapons systems less .” Kornelius also added that “we will not comment further on any plans to deliver Taurus cruise missiles.”

The Defense Ministry cited tactical reasons for the greater restraint. A spokesperson said it would continue to provide information about “which weapons and ammunition we are supplying.” This is different for details such as the number of specific guided missiles. This information is “not so important to the public,” but “the Russian aggressor can draw conclusions from it.”

” It makes no sense for the opposing side to learn details ,” Kornelius added. Such details should no longer be communicated as before, “because it does not help Ukraine’s defense capabilities.” The spokesman pointed out that other European governments are handling this similarly.

With regard to the Taurus cruise missiles, Kornelius said that Germany is providing military support to Ukraine, including “the issue of long-range fire,” “meaning cruise missiles with a certain range.” However, the German government will “not disclose the details of this support.”

Ukraine has long requested the delivery of German Taurus cruise missiles. While former Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) consistently rejected this, citing the risk of escalation, Merz has repeatedly expressed his support for the issue. The Defense Ministry spokesperson now said the issue is “completely overrated.” He added that there is an inappropriate focus on a specific weapon system in the discussion.

Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeyev welcomed the new German government’s decision to once again treat arms deliveries to Ukraine as a secret matter. “A good chess player thinks several moves ahead. What he doesn’t do is predict those moves to his opponent,” Makeyev told the German Press Agency.

“As Ukraine’s ambassador, I am privy to such secrets,” he added. Following Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to Kyiv, he can therefore confirm: “Germany will deliver. And we know exactly what and when. And we are satisfied.”

  2. As a German, I’m glad that we finally have someone decisive as our Chancellor who sees through Putins empty nuclear threats.

Even though I disagree on lot of his and CDU’s domestic policies, I have hope for the future of our country and Europe

  3. Two years of dicking about!

Just bleedin’ well send the fucking things.

    FFS!

  4. Haha. Nice.

Schultz dit many great things for Ukraine (Germany is a massive doner of money and weapons). But always felt a too late too carefull .

    Full gass für Ukraine.

  5. Taurus cost 950k€ each, Russian targets are way cheaper why would you waste that amount on orcs ?

  6. Merz seems to understand how to do this. The Finnish have showed the way. Just ship the stuff we think Ukraine can benefit from with minimal fanfare. Never pre-announce. Just ship and see the maximum results on the battlefield.

Pre-announcing is military self-defeat. Only bureaucrats without combat experience think it is a wise thing to do. Looking at you Jake Sullivan.

  7. It’s a great move. Don’t give the ruZZians an inkling of what is coming their way.
