Forgot to add: this is the UK’s largest meat producer. According to their website: “Animal welfare is at the heart of our business.”
Bacon is tasty though.
Should put a NSFW tag on this post.
Very distressing for most to see a piglet put through that.
I hope those caught on camera are punished to the full extent of the law.
You wouldn’t see this happen in a halal slaughterhouse.
This is horrific
Yeah this is called thumping and is hardly an outlier in the industry. Farms do this up and down the country.
Research it.
Cost of a .22 rimfire cartridge, used in captive bolt guns? About 10 pence, to humanely kill a runt.
Cost of not being a psycho who actively abuses livestock for the fun of it? Free.
Pay for better quality meat if you can, and less often, to reduce dependency on these horrific factory farms, but ultimately this isn’t even all cost related. When you’ve got staff drop-kicking piglets, people are applying for the job because they want to hurt animals, and that’s a company culture/ vetting issue.
Well done to the whistleblowers.
This is exactly why I am vegan. Stories like this are all too often, but what do you expect from people who kill sentient creatures for a living.
After reading the article, vegetarianism doesn’t look that unattractive to me anymore.
Oh, what the actual flying fk? Surely there are merciful ways to put them down.
I hate to pull the bible into this but….
Proverbs 12:10
The godly care for their animals, but the wicked are always cruel.
I wish I didn’t see this headline, with the thumbnail next to it. I was having a good day.
Things like this make me glad that I don’t eat meat. Trying to make more diary free choices as well but I find it difficult much of the time. I don’t understand how anyone could do this to a little pig though some people must just have no feelings when it comes to animals and see them only as a food type?
Doing this is stupid..
wtf that’s terrible… “tax the middle class right away!!”
This will only happen more as small family farms are replaced by industrial farming.
Not only should these people be criminally charged. They should be psychologically evaluated to make sure they are fit members of society. There has to be something deeply wrong with you to do this sort of stuff.

What is the name on the packaging so that we can avoid buying it on future shops?
Lock these people up and confiscate their farms. I can’t even read it cos I know it will haunt me.
Up the inheritance tax quick!!!
I absolutely hate to see this. It should be zero tolerance. If we’re going to raise animals in captivity for food the very least we can do is treat them well.
In terms of practical steps – perhaps we need monitoring cameras to be permanently running in all of these places and the ability for random live/retrospective reviews and monitoring by a government agency at any time. Panopticon. I simply don’t trust in our society to behave. Common decency is eroding in too many places.
Inability to make recordings available on demand should carry an assumption that abuse is taking place, and prosecutions applied accordingly for the perpetrators and owners where necessary.
Honestly this will provoke some people but this is one of the reasons I’m veggie. We humans are vile to other creatures.
Bring on lab grown meat so all this can fade away to history (yes this is a whitewash of the two industries)
