HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Senate confirmed Troy Meink as Secretary of the Air Force on Tuesday by a vote of 74-25, potentially setting the stage for a long-anticipated decision on relocating U.S. Space Command headquarters to Alabama.
Committee hearings for Meink’s nomination took place in March, but the full Senate only voted on the matter on Tuesday.
Sources close to the process told FOX54 that an announcement regarding Space Command’s potential move from Colorado to Alabama is expected shortly following Meink’s confirmation.
U.S. Rep. Dale Strong said Monday that such a relocation would bring more than 4,000 jobs to the Tennessee Valley region.
The decision could have significant economic implications for Huntsville, which has been awaiting final word on the headquarters move since it was first proposed.
