Trump blames ‘brutal’ Europe for soaring drug costs in bid to curb U.S. prices

1. The US has entire layers of healthcare which are designed to extract the maximum possible rent from consumers in desperate need of healthcare.

   There’s no way to reduce costs in the US without eliminating all of those rent-seeking layers.

2. Thing is Europe and elsewhere don’t mind generics and don’t allow drugs companies to advertise to consumers.

   As such they’ll just say “too expensive so we’ll go elsewhere” whereas in the US patients might demand the drug they’ve seen on TV regardless of price.

   Plus there’s a greater emphasis on preventative measures and actively avoiding the need for drugs entirely. Not often the case in the US.

   There are a whole host of reasons why there’s more money in drugs in the US.

   The issue is their system, where healthcare and health insurance is profit based business. It is fully run with commercials, focused on profit of those companies.

   In Europe, healthcare and health insurance is service.

   Nothing to do with subsidizing prices. If you break arm in Czechia with no insurance, the treatment will cost you 100-250 USD.

   IF you break arm in USA, the cost will be 3-10k.

   Potentially **100 times more expensive** with basically just some **pain medication, crust and Xray.**

   So yeah, he is an idiot. He is treating syndromes (=drugs are expensive) rather than a cause (for profit medical care).

28. Jeezus Chirst man. He is now really saying that European universal healthcare systems are a “brutal tactic” that somehow raises the prices for the US. If any US American is here: we are not going to abandon universal healtcare systems because you claim it’s connected to your prices.

    Now we got that out of the way, please understand that when the state provides universal healthcare, the state also holds significant bargaining power for pharmaceutical prices. That’s how we get lower prices, because one massive customer buying in bulk is inevitable getting a lower price than hundreds of customers buying small amounts. It is called economies of scale.

    And you can have that too, America, but you decided thay universal healthcare is communism. Oh, jeez, if that isn’t the consequences of your own actions. Now please, just fuck off for a couple of months. Summer is about to hit, we communist Europeans like to lazily lounge during our siesta and don’t want to hear anymore from your loud mouthed monkey of a “leader”.
