Hello to the North,

my gf (22) and I (25) will be in Norway for 10 days beginning next Friday, and our trip includes a 4 night road trip around Bergen. Mainly thanks to this subreddit, we agreed on a very chill and short route, taking care that driving will take longer than we expect it, and also gives us room for spontaneous stops.

However, I'm a bit indecisive which car to book and I know my questions are kinda specialised, but maybe one of you still knows the answer or has an opinion.

It was our original plan to rent the car in my name and officially add her as a second driver. However, I then realized that the car that we wanted to rent (Tesla Model 3) has a minimum age of 25, so she probably won't be allowed as a second driver. We then considered other EVs, which mainly have a minimum age of 20.

However, we then stumbled across this help page (https://no.getaround.com/help/articles/68a5022774b2#drivers) which basically says that secondary drivers have to be 26 in any case – so it would not even possible that she books a car with minimum age 20, and adds me as a second driver. The help page is generally quite clear, so I unfortunately assume that it is as just described, but as I found some other contradicting information as well on this page, I just wanted to ask if one of you has experience with it or maybe even an ongoing booking and could check it.

Second thing I want to ask: What is your opinion about the type of EV? In Austria, everyone argues that I should rent a Tesla, because the probability of some charging problems is much lower than with every other car, also the range is longer. However, our longest planned distance is about 130km, so every car should be able to do that at the end of May, while the non-Tesla cars being ~1000NOK cheaper for our period, for example a KIA Soul 2022 or a MG4 2024.

Thanks a lot for all answers!

  1. Charging in Norway is a non-issue. Worst case you have to install another app for the specific charging network. We drive a VW and have never had a problem. Kia and MG are quite common and should not cause any problems.

  2. In summer, in Norway, and in 2025, a Tesla doesn’t have any significant advantage compared to the competition when it comes to charging. Especially when you can do your longest round trip on a single charge. And the Tesla charging network is open to other cars.

I wouldn’t rent a 2013 Nissan Leaf or a iMiev but anything recent and decent will do.

  3. Does your gf have to drive? And I don’t see any reason to ‘need’ a Tesla. Never heard of them having less charging issues.
